I have a twin usb controller, that means two joysticks are connected to each other and one of them connects to the usb port, and recently, the one not connected to the port stopped working. Could I detach it just by cutting the cable between.

Make and model?

Would like to be able to directly say yes and if there is nothing to lose by trying then try it.

However, that said, would not expect the manufacturer to be so nice about things so there may be some proprietary connection that prevents "separate" use.

A pin-out diagram (wiring and connections) might help find an answer if the dual controllers diagram can be found.

Odds are if one controller has failed the other may not be too far behind.

More a matter of what effort you wish to make in the determination or just try it with the risk of neither controller working.
