I have an older 1080p monitor that is 144hz but I can't run more than 60 because of the connection newer video cards don't have what I need

so what I was thinking was to run this off on the side for Windows at 1080p and get a new 1440p screen as a main

can you do that running 2 different levels like that?

I have never had more than 1 screen but using this older one for say a YouTube video or looking things up on the internet while I play games seems like a better idea than throwing it away when it still works

The only other idea is maybe give hook it up to my dad's laptop or something like that but that would take a lot more work to get it to him and hook it up

What connection are you using?
Any adapters? Like display port to VGA? Those will limit available resolutions/refresh rates.

Of course, you can connect multiple different resolution monitors.
If your graphics card has all the necessary video outputs.

Using laptop screen to display image from your pc? That won't work.

LOL no you are way too new I said old it has 1 HDMI that I am using it only supports 60fps because it's an old type of HDMI to get 144hz you have to use Dual-link DVI-D

and yes I know you can connect more than 1 monitor I am asking if you can run this one a 1080p and another at 1440p at the same time

and ...... try reading what I said again on that last one I was going to hook this monitor up to his laptop not try to hook a laptop screen to a computer.

Can that even be done I mean wouldn't you have to rewire it or something never really hacked into a laptop screen to look but the few vids I have seen showed large flat cable-type connections in laptop screens

So your monitor supports 144Hz over dual link DVI, but doesn't support 144Hz over HDMI.
Should have just said that.

There are Display port to dual link DVI adapters, that support 120Hz.
Those are expensive though.
This one:

Yes you can - in extend mode.
If you use duplicate mode, then they work at same resolution.
