Can you mount a fan array or heatsink over a GPU Waterblock?

Now this is going to sound like an odd question, but I want to ask it anyways.
I have been considering buying the Geforce GTX 980 K|ngp|n Edition in the future, and was planning to liquid cool it with a Swifttech Luxray Edition, and I was curious as to whether or not you'd be able to mount the GPU casing over the waterblock, with or without the fans. (as I'm aware they won't do much to a waterblock in terms of cooling.) You might ask me why I was curious about this, and I say that in my opinion, GPU blocks don't look, that interesting. I'd much rather have the 980 K|ngp|n's casing around the waterblock, if that's possible. (I don't want to go with the Poseidon 980 as I doubt it's power delivery capabilities.)

Even if it were mountable, you'd have to take out the heatsink part of the casing to install it right, so... hmm.
Just a little modding question, I completely understand if it isn't possible, and the reason I chose the Luxray Edition over other blocks is because, well it looks the coolest.

Can't design a computer without style, right?

*The spelling of Luxury as Luxray wasn't a typo, it was a joke.*

I know exactly how you feel. I think it would look a little silly but since it's just a frame, its more than possible. There are some pretty good looking blocks out there though. I personally love the looks of XSPC's razor blocks; especially when you add in the LEDs and get that nice uniform glow around the card. You could throw in some RGB LEDs on it if you got it (pretty sure Phobya sells something like that but I think they're just strips).
With modding anything is possible. Really depends on how much fab work you can do and are willing to do; although I see no point in doing what you suggest as it will not increase performance. Building a custom case for the water block may be simpler and better.

This all depends on how much space is inside the cooler.

that cooler without the heat sink is not deep enough to hide the block(just deeper than the fans it holds). Keeping the heatsink would make a THICK card with both.

I mean you may be able to make your own way to mount it.

Users who use inexpensive all in one coolers have fit them under the shroud on stock blower type cards while letting the blower cool the vrm are in some cases, but this will not be good for you are you clearly want maximum performance and the stock VRM will not cut it for you.

That's why I'm making the GPU's around the Luxury Editions, because they look the best, and with the single slot capability on the K|ngp|N, that's probably what I'll go with.
