Approximate Purchase Date: Within 2 months

Budget Range: No budget

System Usage from Most to Least Important: 1080p gaming high/ultra settings plus the usual, home-office computer, netflix, plex

Are you buying a monitor: Yes but not part of the budget... any suggestions? Does not have to be a gaming monitor. 24". Will eventually be going to a 2 screen set up so would prefer a flat screen rather than curved

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: No preference

Location: Brampton, Ontario, Canada

Parts Preferences: None

Overclocking: No plans to overclock

SLI or Crossfire:
No

Additional Comments: Would prefer a mid tower case and quiet too if possible. Tropico 6 and Football Manager 2019 (2020 when it comes out) are two of the games I'll be playing so should hopefully give an idea of what the spec requirements will be

thanks, I've edited the first post slightly. bumped the price and a mid tower case would give me a bit more space to add a HDD for extra storage, which I have a 2TB WD drive

quick question regarding the GPU... From the Toms Review parts, I had read the AMD RX580 was the "best" for 1080p, any reason I should skip that and opt for the 1660? IS the AMD equivalent not as good?

Is the CPU cooler needed if I won't be OC'ing?

On the PartPicker site, it say's there's a compatibility issue with the MB and the CPU, would I be able to update the BIOS on these MB's without needing to get an older CPU for it to work?

1660 ti is better than the 580. You do not need a cooler if not OCing. The MSI tomahawk can be BIOS updated without a previous CPU but the MAX version comes with BIOS already updated.

I would choose these if you were to buy an Nvidia graphics card for the G-sync:

PCPartPicker Part List

Monitor: Acer XB241H bmipr 24.0" 1920x1080 180 Hz Monitor ($449.99 @ Memory Express)
Monitor: Asus ROG SWIFT PG248Q 24.0" 1920x1080 180 Hz Monitor ($569.99 @ Memory Express)

As you can see G-sync is a lot more expensive although neither sync technology is required out of a monitor they are definitely nice to have.

Lot more powerful than any GTX 1660Ti combo. All high quality components. Within that 10%+ budget range.

As you already have 2TB HDD going for 1TB SSD over 500GB will not make much sense if you have to compromise on overall performance to fit that in.

For monitor get that AOC C24G1 freezing monitor.

thank you for the suggestions

as a side question... I'm assuming the custom builds are better than this? https://www.costco.ca/Alienware-Aurora-R8-Gaming-Desktop,-i5-9600K.product.100510477.html

The 9600k has frametime issues, in modern titles, that can cause stuttering. The 2070 is faster than all listed graphics cards, except the 5700xt. I do recommend an aftermarket cooler, for the 3600, only because the bundled cooler can get quite loud. Also you should see better/more consistent boost clocks, when using the better cooler. The 3700x's cooler actually does pretty good, without getting horribly loud. I have done a build, using it, and once I set fan speed profiles, to quiet operation, it's noise was noticeable, but not obnoxious.

ok that's good to know... do you then still recommend this cooler? or was that added to stay within the budget?

CPU Cooler: Deepcool GAMMAXX 400 74.34 CFM CPU Cooler ($24.99 @ Canada Computers)

I'd want the system to be as quiet as possible

That cooler I would still recommend, with the 3600. It would be quieter, than the stock cooler, by far. I have used that cooler, before, on an Intel i5 4590 system, and didn't find it loud at all. The 3600, being a 65w chip, should still pair up fine, with that cooler.

regarding the monitor choices... I was going to at some point end up with a dual screen set up, so I think the curved monitor wouldn't be great for that task. Any other options in the 24" range?

That board does not support 3600 speed ram. Keep in mind that you will have to do a bios update, for that CPU to work. Only MSI's Max series B450 boards, have support, right out of the box. That graphics card is going to be loud, and hot, just so you know. Reference design coolers are not very efficient.

Edited first post... decided there's no point making sacrifices on parts/performance to fit inside of a budget. Rather go all out for a 1080p machine

so with that in mind, can I get a few suggestions on the best possible 1080p machine

sorry for the changing of minds
