Hi Everybody,
Yep the description says it. I am upgrading my Internet speed & my service provider now only provides combo cable modem/routers for anything above 60 Mbit/s Download speeds; my old modem from them just died & cannot handle above 120 Mbit/s anyway.
The provided unit is OK but not in the same League as the Asus, & they have the "Modem Only" mode disabled, so it made sense to use the Asus in Access Point mode. It works great BUT if I now try accessing the GUI I get
Changes have been made to the IP address or port number. You will now be disconnected from RT-AC87U.
To access the settings of RT-AC87U, reconnect to the wireless network and use the updated IP address and port number.
Of course if I do a hard reset I get access back but all the settings are gone. I have tried "get settings automatically2. I have manually put in the Access Point Settings, & also tried with having the IP address as 192.168.1.1 (The combo uses 192.168.0.1), but on the restart I always get the message. The Asus Device Discovery app shows 0 devices found when run.

I am stumped, the helpful people on the Asus Forum are stumped. Anyone have a thought on this?

Solution
You can factory reset the AC87U to get back. Then with the unit disconnected from the rest of the network set the LAN IP address to what you want then toggle to AP mode. You will lose DHCP so you will then have to connect to the rest of your network. You should be able to get to the unit and the rest of your network.

Solution
Thank you kanewolf - & thanks also to bill001g for the the high range ip address 🙂
The Router is now in AP mode and the GUI accessible - plus the IPv6 "option" has vanished in this true AP mode, so when I put in the new WAN IP settings after the upgrade I should not run into any difficulties (fingers crossed!)
