I have a D-link DSL-2730U as my primary ADSL modem configured as follows:
IP Address: 192.168.1.1
DHCP: ON
Start IP Address: 192.168.1.3
End IP Address: 192.168.1.254
Leased Time: 24 Hours

Yesterday I got a Huawei HG531 V1 and I thought maybe I could use it as an access point to extend the range of wifi, so I changed its IP address to 192.168.1.2, turned off DHCP and configured the WLAN security as WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK and turned off WPS

Now whenever I try to connect my iPhone to the new wireless signal it fails to obtain an IP yet it works if I entered them manually, wired connections too cannot obtain IPs automatically instead they get some weird IP starting 169.254.x.x

How can I fix this?

Solution
I have the same situation. I had to connect the primary router to the HG531 through cables, then I did exactly like you have did, but additionally, you have to give another name for the WiFi network of HG531 differs than the name of the primary router.

Another note, Stopping the DHCP of HG531 only is not a solution, You have to set the DHCP to be relay. i.e from Basic > LAN > DHCP > DHCP Option Pool: uncheck "DHCP Option pool" and check "DHCP relay" for each item in the "Device Type" list.

If you did not find this option as described in your HG531 web configurations, it should be two possibilities:

1- You are logged with non admin user
2- Your firmware is not the original Huawei firmware, so you have to upgrade or change the firmware.
