I've been trying to extend my C:\ partition so I can get some more room to work with as I try to copy some files over from a backup I made. That part's not really important though; I can do that just fine.
The problem is that right now, I've got my 500 GB partition on my 1863 GB hard drive, and I want to extend that to 863 GB (so I still have 1000 GB left over). But every time I try, I'm told that I apparently don't have enough disk space on my drive.
After some reading I thought I should mention:
1. My drive is as of now only my single C:\ partition, and the rest is unallocated space to the right of the main partition (according to Disk Management)
2. I've tried this with both Disk Management and DiskPart. The "extend volume" option in Disk Management is also not grayed out; and
3. it is not being declared as "free space." It's completely unallocated. Literally no reason that I should be told that there isn't enough space, because well...there IS.
Also I really can't format this partition, I've got a lot of stuff on it already and I can't afford to back it up or spend the time to redo all my work so far.
So if anyone can elaborate on this, I'd greatly appreciate the info!
