cannot install ubuntu eufi with win 8.1

on installing ubuntu 15.10 64 bit in a machine with win 8.1 in eufi mode, it says "executing grub install/dev/sda failed" and stops install. HDD is SDA. Secure boot disabled. created bootable USB using Rufus in EUFI.

If you boot off USB, don't select "Automatically select where to install GRUB", something along these lines. This goes to /dev/sda, which during nistall is your USB

At the time of partitioning, it shows only the HDD and its partitions as the options for installation of Boot loader. The are shown as SDA1, SDA2 etc. So how to select another partition for GRUB installation ?
