Cannot perform check disk for errors

I am trying to perform a check disk but it's not allowing me because it says it cannot access the drive so asks to perform it when it reboots. I go about rebooting the laptop and it still says it cannot access it to perform it. I have no malware that I know of and I cannot comment on viruses.

Sorry for the overly late response, but I figured out the issue. Something in the background was running which was not allowing the system checkdisk to fully access it. So I just booted up in safemode or went to msconfig and disabled most of the background apps from running which allowed me to use the checkdisk and fix the errors.
