Cannot read Microsoft windows 7 disc.

Is this a retail or OEM disk you are talking about? If your system can't read that, then it will NOT read a copy of it. That would indicate your optical drive has a problem.

Where did you get the Win 7 disk you are having trouble with?

True, you can make a backup copy of your disk as you still only have a single license (or however many you purchased). You just can't make a copy and distribute it.

Still, a copy of a disk you can't read will not be any better than the original, especially if you have an original retail or OEM DVD.

if your original windows 7 disc wont read then maybe its scratched?

if its scratched your local dvd rental shop should have a machine to polish the scratches off

cost me about £3 the last time i did it in my local blockbusters

and as already said if it wont read it to boot then it wont read it to copy it--try it in a different dvd drive to see if

the problems with your dvd drive and not the disc

Many thanks people. I am really redfaced here, it turns out that the DVD drive was actually BAD. So much
for Plextor. It was bad in odd ways and drove me crazy trying to understand what was happening. It is
in disc HELL now! Thank you all for your comments;
