Simply, it won't leave. I have tried using the control panel. Tried Manually frying everything. Done a Registry Clean. The thing persists, it simply will NOT delete off my system - anyone know how to kill it?

Solution
Well, if I say to you that the way to solve your problem is to follow the advice as laid out in this thread then you could choose this reply as the solution.

And I am glad I could help. It was an interesting journey.

Now get some sleep and have a good day. Good morning.

:)
oh the reason I do NOT want to play in the registry is because the last time I did, it resulted in a total rebuild
so yeah, I'm staying out of that without someone watching what I'm doing

Trust me, you will love this.

Open the registry editor and open the folders one at a time, starting with the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Then open the Microsoft folder.

Please trust me.

Scroll down and open the folder named 'Windows'.

Open the CurrentVersion folder.

Scroll down to the Uninstall folder and open it.

[

Now, if you click on the first hexadecimal name in that folder, you will see a lot of information in the right hand pane.

Press the 'Down' key on your keyboard to scroll down and look for pinnacle in one of those lists.

This is where we can find out where the uninstall file is.

ok, I'm going to try ... if my computer dies - I'm not sure how, but I'll reach through the interwebs to slap you LOL ...
ok, one step at a time ... I'm headed there ... actually I might have deleted that already, I deleted some folder that came in brackets that had an .exe in it ... came from the 'downloaded instillations' folder - do I need to recover that?

When you know where the install files are, you can browse to them and delete them.

Then, when you uninstall, you should get a slightly different response.

No, I never had any version of Pinnacle but I do have a Corel app that came with my camera.

And where did you get the idea I had Pinnacle folders on my system?

That's where I got the idea from ... sounded like you had pinnacle folders ... I'm slowly following your registry instructions, I have it open so far ... this is not a comfortable thing for me to do I hope you know ... It's probably a good thing you said "you'll love this" and not simply "trust me" otherwise I'd go "HA, NO!" This better live up to the 'fun' kind of thing to be doing ... no pressure or anything ...

*concentrates so she doesn't delete something uber important - like last time she was in here*

No, it is because such a folder exists on your machine that it can show up in Control Panel.

We're helping your computer to get well.

And LOL, it's after 9 a.m. where I am.

I just stayed up all night and now this is going to be a long day.

I'll put the kettle on.

Did you find a folder with Pinnacle in it?

LOL. It'll be a breeze.

No, what I meant was I have only three folders with hexadecimal names in that folder we were looking at.

Are we there yet?

I'm looking - slowly and carefully - I feel like I should have backed this all up before coming into the reg keys ... don't rush me dude ... You're in Europe somewhere I assume? (well it's 5am in the US/Canada) and the UK would be 10am-ish ... actually, no UK could make sense, given daylight savings, except I'm not on it ... it's 8.15pm to me ...

I'm not a super computer wiz, but I'm working on it ... grab a coffee and a ciggie and settle in, assuming you don't have to go to work, otherwise - oh that's going to hurt you poor thing!

But if you claim this is making the laptop 'better' ... well so far you haven't been wrong, so I'm working with you - I'm just not super savvy with this stuff ... I know just enough to break them and cause others headaches ... so I'm following your directions, which is a lot of flipping to and fro with these windows ... But I promise I am doing it!

Well, if we do this right we won't have to delete a thing from the registry - Control Panel is going to do it for us.

I won't make you do anything you are uncomfortable with and that means NO DELETING.

Well, maybe just one or two things. 😛

you so could have given me ALL the steps to get to there ... do you know how long I was looking at the top going "where is Windows" before I looked at the picture and realised I had to open software first?

Ok, I've got to the file place you want me to be in with all those hexadeca things, what file am I looking for inside that?

oh well then I had 4 ... until I deleted one, now I have 3 ...
and yes, we are there ...
are we there yet, are we there yet LOL
(you must have been a joy to your folks on car trips lol)

Ha ha ha. That is funny. I was trying to include as much info as possible in each picture.

Now, you are looking for any reference to Pinnacle.

Okay, now go up to the toolbar in regedit and click on 'Edit'.

On the list that comes up, select 'Find'

In the box, type 'pinnacle' (without the quotes) and press okay.

It should find the right folder for you.

Do you see an explosion of useful information in front of you?

I see information ... useful is subjective 😛
I scrolled through the lot and didn't find pinnacle, so I'll try your find thing now
(which I'd known that before looking at the huge number of crappy things that I have in there that I'm not really sure why they're there or why I have 5 of any one thing)

*Hunts*

Oh you poor thing *pats her gently on the back*

Some installed apps consist of module. iTunes installs about five program that appear to you as one interface.

They all show up here.

How goeth the hunt?

ok it came up in a LOT of places:

Windows NT > Current Version > AppCompactFlags > Layers ... "Default" (x3)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Classes > Wow6432Node > CLSID > {79BC0345-1015-11D2-A299-006008312725} > DefaultIcon

(there are 19 in there)

This could take a really freaking long time to list everywhere that it is ... HELP - where specifically do I need to find this thing? Or do I actually need to kill all this stuff?

I did, but then I think it decided to do it's own thing

**** EDIT ****

I just did the whole 'find' thing again
it completely skips the uninstall folder
There's heaps in "installer" nothing in "uninstall"

This was the only other one that made any kind of sense to me

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Pinnacle Systems

All the others are basically just strings like above except for a few which I'm not sure if they are actually useful or not ....

Dude, I think I broke it ...

OMG! No, you don't need to get them all. Just any that are in the 'Uninstall' folder.

Don't panic. Ignore those.

Do you remember how you got to the 'Uninstall' folder?

From 'Microsoft' it was Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall, right?

So now, and since you found nothing when you manually searched the Uninstall' folder, I want you to close all the folders back up until you get to the Microsoft folder.

In other words, close all the folders until you get back to where you were just about to open 'Microsoft'.

You, the 'Uninstall' we just looked at is the 32-bit one, now we have to check the 64-bit one.

I'm sorry about that last 'find' thing, we won't do that again.

No, you didn't. Just close the folders so that they look tidier.

The next folder is actually in the Wow6432 folder which is further down the same list as the one that 'Microsoft' is on'

We are close now.

By the way, the folder you pointed out is one of the two folders I will get you to delete and it is encouraging that you have found it.

Now, bear with me.

When you open the Wow6432 folder, you should then scroll down the list and open 'Microsoft' > 'Windows' > 'CurrentVersion' and finally, 'Uninstall'.

It's the same path as before, almost.

Open the Uninstall folder to reveal yet more hexadecimal names.

Select the first one and look in the right hand pane.

Again, you are looking for 'Pinnacle'.

I'm sure it is here.

I'm lost ... Glad I found one, even if I don't know which one it is I found ...

I'm here

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft

where do I go next? I can't find Wow6432 listed as an option under that :-/
I can find a Wow6432Node, but it's under 'SOFTWARE' not 'Microsoft' and it's the wrong name

Close the Microsoft one and when it is closed, scroll down the list.

Wow64 is about a dozen names below Microsoft.

I have an splwow64

otherwise, so far the best I can find is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Component Based Servicing > ComponentDetect > wow64_microsoft-windows-p..gssystems.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_0.0.0.0_zh-cn_45d531b1f504f410

There are literally hundreds of those
