"Your device is up to date."

It is certainly not. My laptop recently got the Creators Update and it works like a charm, then I turned to my desktop and wanted to install the update there as well.

Windows Update says I'm already updated... Okay then, wait, there's something else:
"Good news! The Windows 10 Creators Update is on its way. [...]"

Awesome, I will just download this update assistant, which says I'm ready to update my system from version 14393 to the latest called version 15063!

"Downloading Windows 10 Update." Nice!

"Verifying download (or something)" Cool!

"Updating Windows 10. Please wait." Almost there!

And now you might expect it to be done after reaching 100%, right?

NOPE, it just goes back to the first screen, as seen here: https://gyazo.com/ededcabd0f21f395d75c17bbfe9d6e83

I have no idea why this is happening, I've tried to install it at least four times now, with no different result. Please help, I would really like this update on my desktop, not just on my laptop! :C

Solution
if it keeps not working, one solution is a fresh install of win 10 using the USB you make. Since PC works apart from this, you can plan it and make sure not to loose anything... or you know, PC might just update you randomly like nothing is wrong.

Do you have latest drivers for PC?
do you have a brand name PC or custom? its possible you need a new driver for hardware before it will work, hence why its not showing as an update

I would download the media creation tool - its 2nd link on page where upgrade assistant is found. Use it to make a win 10 installer and then try update again by running setup.exe on the USB in file explorer, that should update current install. Try removing PC from internet or any extra devices that aren't essential.

if link you had only shows upgrade assistant, its 2nd link on this page - Windows 10 media creation tool

Roger that, I will try this out now!

Also looking at the Update History, it says I've got version 1607, which means I have anniversary update installed.

Solution

I've got all the latest updates I can think of, in fact, I just updated my graphic driver so no worries there.

I guess I will try the last option you mention, if nothing else suceeds

Just in case you do:

follow this guide: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

when you reach the screen asking for licence, click "I don't have a key" and win 10 will continue to install and reactivate once finished

On the screen where you choose where to install win 10, if it gives you an error about GPT drives, delete all the partitions on the hdd and press next. If it still gives error, cancel out of the installer and restart PC and start installer again, it will accept next on that screen this time (some PC just need a restart here)

could say I done those instructions before :)

It appears that the MediaCreationTool.exe has successfully updated my PC to Creators Update in a matter of minutes! 😀

Thanks to you sir, have a wonderful day!
