Question Cannot wake up laptop using external mouse and keyboard with the lid closed

Hi there.

I'm having trouble waking my laptop from sleep with the lid closed using my external mouse and keyboard. I have changed power and sleep settings as follows:

Lid close action : do nothing (both plugged in and on battery)
USB selective suspend setting: disabled ( both plugged in and on battery)

I have also enabled "allow this device to wake the computer" for the mouse and keyboard in device manager.

Note: I am only able to wake the laptop with the lid closed when it is plugged in and charging. It doesn't work if it is on battery.

I am using a lenovo ideapad i7 8th gen with windows 10.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

This is not uncommon for a laptop. It's one of the reasons that I quit using one for use as a "tv console". In my own case I just left it somewhere I could lift and close the lid to wake it. (this was several different machines). I don't know the "why" of it.
