O.k, here's my situation, i have a Canon 6D and i want a 4K Monitor. I was told by an agent at one of the biggest vendors in the Country that i can't get 3840 x 2160 resolution from this setup. I have the Dell 8930 PC with a NVIDIA GTX 1060 6gb GPU. I have to say, i'm not technically savvy, but is he, or am i misunderstanding something here? He says that i would have to buy a Camera capable of 4K, like the Canon 5D Mark IV. I explained to him that i did not want to do VIDEO,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ONLY PHOTO EDITING. I said "What i want to do is take a photo, transfer the photo from my 6D to my 8930, open it, view and edit it from my 4K Monitor." He said i could not do this with that setup. I would appreciate an opinion from someone here if possible.

Thanks
Tom Kelley

Yes you can. no problem. Even if the 6D was incapable of taking an image at 4k resolutions (which it can), you could still edit it as the higher res monitor would allow menus etc around a 1:1 image. Now there is a trend/was a trend, to extract photos from 4k film, no idea how exposure, dof, aperture etc. would work.
There is nothing about your setup that would prevent you from showing a photo on the 4K screen. The agent is wrong.
The GTX 1060 can display 4K, though it may struggle with playing some games at that resolution, but displaying a photo is not a problem.
And the camera has no direct connection to the monitor, you just have to copy the photo to your computer.

Thank You so much, i thought that was the case, but i just wanted to be sure before i bought a Monitor. I'm considering the Dell 2715Q, the BenQ BL2711U and the LG 27UD68. Any advice on these?

Thanks Man, this site is the best on the Web!

Yes, they are all IPS screens, they just have different connections etc, All have the same resolution and all have good reviews, but sometimes you can't always trust the vendors reviews you know. Of all them, i like the LG for LOOKS, but i'm not going for LOOKS, i want dependability. Some Monitors also, are more geared toward gaming, which i don't do. I just want a good Monitor for Photo editing.

For photo editing, you will want to make sure the monitor is IPS, which will have much higher visual quality, and more consistent colors. All three that you listed have IPS. I have both a Dell (older model) and the LG that you mention, and they have served me well. I have no firsthand experience with the BenQ, though it seems to be rated well.

Thank You Brian, that helps me in my decision, the LG is the one i keep coming back to, i just wanted to hear it from someone reputable.
