I bought a scanner (Canon LiDE 11o) today. When I go through its tech. spec. I found that it has 2400 x 4800 dpi max resolution. I want to understand what this actually means?

When I install the software and try to scan a document I found, it has only 600 dpi max. These two values confused me. Further, when I loo more information I found the same device has resolution of 19200 x 19200 interpolated resolution.

Can any one please explain me what these three values mean and what is the exact achievable dip when I scan?

The true optical resolution is 2400 x 4800 dpi (that's 2400 dpi across the width of the scanner, and 4800 dpi lengthways, mechanically achieved as the scanner lamp moves from top to bottom.

The 19,200 x 19,200 dpi is only achieved by the driver software "interpolating" or adding more pixels without actually adding any more detail to the scan compared to the true resolution above. It's usefulness comes to the fore when scanning very small items which otherwise wouldn't have sufficient pixels overall to avoid a grainy appearance when the scan is printed at a larger size than the original.

As for the 600 dpi, check the scanner driver settings again. You should be able to change that to a higher value.

Thank you for the explanation Philip. Bur still I'm unable to figure out how to increase the resolution more than 600 dpi.

Can any one help me to get this done.

Thanking in progress...
