Hi
I try to access my access point configuration page but the written ip address on the box doesn't work. ipconfig gives me the 192.168.1.1 and by using that I enter to the modems configuration page instead of the access point configuration page !

What is the issue here?
I just want to set a password for the unsecure access point as everyone in the neighborhood having fun with my accesspoint's internet
Thx

Solution
You need to plan out the network addresses and then go to each AP, disconnect it, reset it and enter to make all the changes then reconnect it to the network and move on to the next.

You should never leave an unsecured point on a wireless network, all sorts of bad can happen. So use WPA2/AES on each and also change the default password to enter the device configuration page. In addition turn off WPS on all wireless devices including the router as it is not secure and allows easy access to a network.

Start with the router and insure that WPS is off. If you have no other static addresses in use, change the router DHCP assignment range from 192.168.1.20 to 192.168.1.254, which leaves you plenty of static addresses. Then make the APs...
Attach a computer to the AP by a cable and type in its IP address that you can find by looking in what the attached devices in the router configuration pages if you cannot remember it.

If all else fails you can disconnect the AP from the network and reset it then use its default values to enter and change everything to what you want. I usually just change the IP last because when you save that you will get disconnected and have to reconnect to the new AP address.

i attached the computer with cable , it failed to enter the setup page
i reset the access point into factory setting but again ... it automatically connected to the modem's internet and provide the previous ssid witch is ''default'' and without any password/security

i can only connect to modem's setup page with 192.168.1.1 and everything else fails to work
in the user manual it says 192.168.0.50 is what i need to access the setup page but it doesn't work
cable didn't worked either ..

what i don't get is why i am redirected to the modem's setup page while i am not connected to the modems ssid

and i do have 3 diffeernt access point + modems ssid , none of the 3 have any security key, only the modem has
and whenever i am connected to each one of those 192.168.1.1 redirect me to modem's setup page witch already has a security key

it's seems strange for me
i would be happy if i can find a solution for it here
thanks

Then make the APs 196.168.2, .3, and .4 -- setting their gateway address to the main router at 192.168.1.1. Insure that each AP 2.4GHz radio is on a different non-overlapping channel (1, 6, and 11). If the router also has a wireless radio use whichever radio channel is the same as the farthest AP from the router (you can check for the weakest signal with a cellphone wifi analyzer app).

Once you setup all of the APs, you should not see them on the network -- all you will see is 192.168.1.1 as they are just all passive devices that do not do DHCP.

It is your choice if you want everything to use the same SSID or not.

Solution
You MUST disconnect the AP from the network cable after the reset and attach with a computer and then enter the AP default IP address in your browser.
