Hey,

So basically i tried to make a dual boot on my PC, i've downloaded Windows 10 onto a stupid USB 2.0 flash and i made a 30GB partition from my 500GB HDD.

When i tried to boot the windows 10 (USB FLASH) from the BIOS it didn't work, it lead me straight to my windows 7 boot up, i tried some different options in the "Advanced" boot ASUS bios options and i changed something to "EFI" (not UEFI) and since then each time i start the PC i get a black screen, then 1 short beep, then after 10 seconds a second 1 short beep and it doesn't boot anything and it doesn't let me get into windows.

It works weird, i'm on windows now but if i'll restart it i'll have to wait for the black screen to finish and make a few clicks with my mouse/keyboard then windows 7 suddenly boots up after 1-2mins of black screen and then a blinking typing animation appears "-" and if i type something it makes typing sounds.

i've set the usb flash as the number 1 boot priority but then i took it off, i think that the motherboard waits for the flash USB with the W10 to respond but then it fails because it's missing or something like that.....

I reconnected a few cables and the RAM, pressed "mem ok" button, and i took out the motherboard battery and put it back and i still can't access the bios....

Basically i need to reset my CMOS or something like that right? how do i do this?

Thanks in advance!

Solution
Yes, reset the CMOS. Locate the CMOS battery on your motherboard (round, flat, and silver). With your computer off and unplugged, remove the battery for about a minute. Press and hold your power button (with the PC still unplugged) for about 10 seconds. Reinsert the battery, plug in the PC, and attempt to boot without that USB stick inserted.

I wanted to do it earlier but i didn't want to reset the settings, i did it and it worked, thanks!

But i don't remember what intel bs technology i've disabled in the bios, because some of them hurt video game performance, I've disabled marvell controller and some other stuff....

And any idea why the BIOS didn't let the USB boot? it recognized it twice in the bios as "UEFI flash driver" and "generic flash drive" but it skipped onto windows....
Maybe because it's a stupid old usb idk.

Windows does not want to run off of a USB drive and it’s programmed to not boot from them. Microsoft does sell their own dedicated USB drives that run version of Windows 10. There are some software hacks out there to enable any USB to run Windows.

So DVD has a higher chance of working?

No, but you can download and install Windows from an install disk. But trying to load a full operating version of Windows to a DVD will not work either.

The thing is that Microsoft does not want Windows to easily be transferable. If it were as simple as burning a copy to a DVD or flash drive then they would never sell any licenses. You could just buy Windows once and then make copies to give away for free. So, USB’s, DVD’s, or anything that is removable will not support a full operating version of Windows. You can follow some techniques online to get it to work with an external hard drive or a USB but it’s a bit complicated.

It worked with Windows 7 but it's older so i guess they improved some of their security stuff.
It can still work if you download some specific stuff that breach it.

Thanks!
