Hi

I have seen loads of posts about this but i just come to dead ends every time.

m/board asus b150m-c with up to date bios.
cooler master 500w psu
i3-6100
corsair vengance lpx ddr4 2x8gb 2133mhz- although can only use 1....

initially i had 2 x 4gb crucial sticks, again i could only use 1 at a time although either stick will work in any slot until you add the second-these were not bought as a matching pair , this is what i thought the problem was going to be which is why i bought the set of corsairs.

Runs perfect with 1 stick of memory in, any stick in any slot.

If i add another stick, from a bought pair, the screen stays black, with "no display".

really struggling to find how to up the voltage like i have seen in other posts. if this is even what it needs

also, i hear about timings, there is a lot of timings boxes to fill in, where would i get the info to put all that in?

could it be a case of changing the screenn res to get into the set up or something?

give me some more straws please!

Any help is gratefully received, but could we keep it to laymans terms please...

just to add, i am running a d-link from a gtx1050ti graphics card

Hi Lynx

i must come clean now. when i said all my sticks worked in any slot, this was from memory from when i tried using the original sticks last year, i am still sure i did try all the slots and they did work, but not 2 at a time. i went through all this last time but the sticks did not support xmp and i thought this could of been the problem so gave up as i didnt want to buy new sticks, i wasnt desperate at the time but now im finding my framerate is really struggling(warzone) i am at it again...with new sticks.

I have just tried again to double check. Now it seems that only slots b1 and b2 are recognising sticks, obviously these are not paired slots and although the screen starts and the pc recognises the 16gb ram(2x8) using the benchmark tool there is no difference whatsoever, so i guess that is because they are in the wrong slots(not paired).

I have got xmp on now, it did not work with it off. maybe i will put the bios settings back to default and try that, just incase ive altered something i shouldnt of.

lpx 16 gb(2x8gb) ddr4 2133mhz c13

My mother board is broken isnt it?

ive just shoved the pc back into the cabinet and cleared up, im off to bed but any ideas that i can have a go at tomorrow night, i will drag it all out again.

Could it be as simple as cleaning the slots with alcohol/contact spray or is that a no-no...

I checked and neither one of those memory modules are on the QVL list for your board. If you have your PC in a cabinet it needs to have an open back for full ventilation or it will run hot and slow down! Not all DDR4 will work in all boards.
You need to download Memtest86 and put it on a bootable USB and test each stick. MemTest86 v8 Free Edition https://www.memtest86.com/compare.html Corsair has a memory finder that I tried to cross reference for your board but sometime it is sketchy, it does say the following is compatible wit the B150-c
SKU: CMK16GX4M2A2133C13
VENGEANCE® LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2133MHz C13 Memory Kit black

ok, so a1 and a2 do not appear to be working, i downloaded the memtest onto a usb, i restarted the pc and went into the bios and had the usb as the primary disc but it just went straight to the normal start up window i really dont understand what to do with the memtest on the usb. i cant seem to do anything with it and the instructions are 10s of pages long.

While i had the pc base out again, i changed the button battery on the m/board and put a screwdriver across the reset pins.

did another ez flash

i did a windows memory test and it found no problems but then i suppose it wont if i only have one stick in which runs well, i cant run with 2 because the screen wont work.

ive just spent another 3 hrs pulling cards in and out, restarting, getting into bios, running with the graphics card out, ive had enough now.

Tomorrow morning i am thinking of taking everything apart and reasembling from scratch on the table, i have heard the board can warp in places! maybe, i dont know but its very frustrating!

unless there is something easy to try..

So the reason your memtest didn't boot off the usb is either because these things can be finicky or that you didn't do it right. I would download an iso and then just use rufus to write it to the usb (usb will be completely deleted, so make sure it is okay first):

Then you should be able to boot to the memtest. But honestly, that's not really going to help as it seems like you have almost conclusively proven that your motherboard has 2x dead slots.

Carefully take apart your system and reassemble with the expectation that nothing will get fixed and that you may even have a new problem as you may end up with one simply from touching everything. If you again have 2x dead slots, time to call your motherboard maker for a warranty.

I had the case open on the table, brushed the board clean, brushed out the stick slots and checked for damage, loosened board screws 1/4 turn, took off cpu, cleaned regreased and reset. Gpu out and cleaned, cmos battery out again and pins reset.
Still the same...
Screen pics just incase you can see something that's wrong...
I'm going to dig out the receipts and hope the warranty is still in!

Pins looked all good, but with my eyesight! it might be worth rechecking!

To be honest, i am not after a massive improvement on this pc, it does everything i want but lacks a bit playing warzone online, graphics/display options are set low and the framerate is fluctuating between 20-50fps mainly, i was just hoping that adding this extra 8gdb on a separate stick was going to give me slightly higher graphic options and settle the framerate down, hopefully around a more constant 60 fps mark.

I dont really feel i am ready for a whole new rig yet just for this but at the same time it seems a waste to update the motherboard with a new one without updating everything else! the old age problem of where do you stop!

Do you think i wold see an improvement by using 1x16gb over the 1x8gb stick i have now,?
