Using an Asus m5a97 EVO R2.0 motherboard. The asus screen asking to press f2 or delete comes up, but once pressing those keys the screen goes black and nothing happens.

My keyboard is plugged in and has led lights on.

Thank you for your time.

ok... there is a clr_cmos jumper down by the bottom right hand corner of that motherboard. a jumper is 3 pins sticking up from the board, with a small plastic part...
try to clr_cmos... pull the plug out of the computer, set the jumper, and pull the battery. wait a few minutes, then set it all back up

if that doesn't work

pull out all but 1 stick of ram, unplug all the drives... if that doesn't work, swap the stick of ram into each different ram slot, then try the other sticks in different slots.

If none of this works you might have a faulty motherboard.

What's the jumper and the battery? Sorry, this is my first build and to be frank I'm mostly clueless. I followed the step by step guide in my motherboard booklet

ok... there is a clr_cmos jumper down by the bottom right hand corner of that motherboard. a jumper is 3 pins sticking up from the board, with a small plastic part bridging 2 of them... this is a very rudimentary "switch" and in it's default position it's allowing power to flow from the PSU/battery to the "bios" memory chip. swapping position on the jumper, cuts off power to the cmos memory. resetting the system to stock.

As an additional precaution, mostly cause who knows what redundancies MB makers build into their system, you should also pull the plug from the back of the computer, and then pop out the cmos battery, that's the circular silver part on the board... it has a simple release, just push the release on the inside lip of the battery holder, and it should just pop out.

leave it like this a few minutes. make some coffee or something. then put the battery back in, swap the jumper back into the "open" position, and then plug the whole thing in.

Okay, I just did that. Still the same shit. The AMD screen came up, asked to press f1 to enter bios. Then just a blank screen. Turned it off and turned it back on, the Asus screen comes up asking to press f2 or del, regardless of whether I press them nothing happens.

I just changed my tv and bios loaded up. Apparently bios only works at 1280X1024 res. Some TV's and the GPU don't get along causing the bios to not show up.

However, I have another problem now. I assumed I could install windows with an external dvd drive, but it doesn't seem to be working. I should probably go to sleep...

If you could assist me further I'd be eternally grateful!
