I have ACER Power S280 motherboard, bios version: PHOENIX TECH, R01-B4, with two drives, one is a CD drive connected to PATA bus, the other is a DVD drive connected to a SATA bus beside a sata harddisk drive.
The problem is; i can't boot system from the DVD drive, but it can boot from the CD or HDD correctly, I tried many setup configurations, boot priority, but the setup (can't find) the DVD drive.
after system booting (let's say from HDD) every thing is OK with both CD and DVD drives; read, write...
Thanks for all

Dear brarboy,
Thank you for reply,
I've tried this before, disconnecting CD drive, but also got the same result; the BIOS SETUP doesn't (find) the DVD drive, so i can't make this drive as a booting device,
Also i've tried another attempts like: disconnecting the HDD, making the CD drive as a SLAVE, trying all parameters in the BOOT PRIORITY menu, all parameters in HDD BOOT PRIORITY menu, and almost all configurations in SETUP pages, but no use!
I ask is there something wrong with the DVD drive (it's new, LG), or motherboard (jumper setting, model), BIOS update, or any thing else !
I need both CD drive, DVD drive, to be as a booting device, like other PC i have which is with GEGABYTE mobo.
Thank you for your support.

have a look at your motherboard's manufacturer website and download latest BIOS drivers and carefully flash it. Make sure to properly go through your motherboard manual for updating your bios. Let me know if the problem still persists.

Dear Brarboy,
I went to the mobo manufacturer's website (ACER) but there's no BIOS update or download for this model !! , may be it's not a custom service after they have sold it !!!, I downloaded other drivers (not the BIOS) from their website, installed them all, and there is no resut, the problem still persists.

Dear Brarboy
Thank you in advance for your support, and there is the photos for the settings of Integrated Peripherals section with the sub-menu of the 1st three items:

I apologize for the forum if it is a big upload

connect your dvd drive to motherboard on sata port. Just reset your bios after connecting, then go to boot priority and make dvd drive as your 1st boot priority. If doesn't work? Change the Sata Cable to other unused Sata port and see if it shows up? Also try changing "Init Display First" in first pic to "PCI".

Dear Brarboy
I reconnected the DVD drive to the same SATA port (there is no empty SATA port), just after that I resetted the BIOS ( only by loading the default settings of the BIOS SETUP), saved by F10, but also the DVD drive is not listed in the BOOT PRIORITY menu.
and there is no empty SATA port in the mobo, it has only two SATA ports; one for the HDD, the other I recently added this DVD drive to the PC by this 2nd port.
I swapped the HDD & DVD drives SATA ports, reseted BIOS, but also got the same result.
I made the (Init Display First) in the 1st pic (Integrated Peripherals) as PCI, saved by F10, but unfortunately the same result; the DVD drive is not listed in the BOOT PRIORITY menu.

Dear Brarboy,
Excuse me for confusion, cause by my poor ENGLISH, 😗 I tried to explain what I did as you stated but with detail,
About Parallel Port Mode: I made it SSP but also it doesn't work, also I tried all other options in this paragraph (Parallel Port Mode) but none of them works.

i am sorry dude, it's going out of knowledge now.
Last things you can check are: Is your SATA and hdd set on AHCI instead of IDE(if there is any option you can see), make sure you are providing PSU to your new DVD drive.

Dear Brarboy,
1- There is no AHCI option in the whole BIOS SETUP,
2- The power supply for the DVD drive is OK because it can make all functions properly (read, write, play movies.....),
3- There is one empty IDE port in the Mobo, What's your opinion ... can I connect this SATA DVD drive to this IDE port via SATA/IDE adapter?
Thank you

yes you can connect buddy with that adapter. If adapter thing costs you more, then you can also look at the other alternative to go for any external usb plug dvd-drive.
Also, while searching for your problem i came across a case much same like yours. He said that he had to change motherboard, and on new board the dvd drive worked smoothly. Anyway, good luck buddy :)

Dear Brarboy,
I know my Mobo is an old one, although I tried to make it respond to this DVD drive by some configurations, and as I wrote previously, this DVD drive boots fine with another PC which has GIGABYTE Mobo.
The No.1 aim for me is just to see WHY, but now I gave up :spamafote: and try other solutions like the adapter,
I 'll get one, may be next week, and will inform you the result soon.
Thank you for support and stay tuned :dawa:
