Recently used PArtition wizard Pro to clone my windows 10 installion from a 1tb HDD to a 3TB HDD, I had to convert thedrive from MBR to GTP in order to use the full 3TB of space on the new drive. When I boot up my machine into the new HDD it hangs at the "Stuck at verifying DMI Pool Data"
is the beacuse my new HDD is now only going to be able to be used as a back up drive and is no longer bootable? I should also mention I use a Cruucial 200BX 240GB SSD as my Windows 7 boot drive, But I like having windows 10 installed on the other drive so I could use it if I needed it.
Am I now SOL on my WIndows 10 install on the 3TB HDD?

Solution
You cannot really do it this way. The only way you will get Win 10 to boot off GPT is if you Fresh install it on a GPT disc to begin with. Cloning won't work as it doesn't have the right partitions to let windows 10 boot off the disc

The way MBR and GPT discs boot is completely different. MBR discs have a MBR boot sector at the start of them to allow the BIOS to locate the boot loader. GPT discs have an EFI partition to allow the UEFI to locate the boot loader, and it doesn't have to be first partition on drive..

I would fresh install win 10 on the 3tb ssd and it will format it exactly how it needs to be. Then manually copy the rest of data off old hdd

If you don't have the installer now, download the Windows 10 media creation...

Thank you very much for the answer. Sounds like ill be doing a fresh install then :)
Am I corrrect to assume i have to format the 3TB HDD to a GTP before installing Windows otherwise if it is MBR it wont read the full 3TB of storage?

If your PC was made in the last 10 years or so and has a UEFI bios, You don't have to do anything with HDD before you put win 10 on. Win 10 should recognise your BIOS type amd insist on you using GPT at step 13 of the Clean install process. If you delete all the partitions off the drive at this stage, windows should format drive as GPT for you.

What motherboard do you have and I will just check

My current rig
Mother Board: Gigabyte-78LMT USB3 6.0
AMD FX-6300 + EVO 212
16GB Crucial RAM
Crucial 240BX 240GB SSD (Main Drive WIndows 7 Install)
Western Digital 3TB 5400RPM HDD (trying to fix backup windows 10 install, don't wanna give up free direct x12 )
MSI 960 4GB

Also my computer still won't even boot properly, if I just turn it on it will hang at the VMI Data pool screen after POSTing. The only way I can get it to boot into my W7 SSD is if I press F12 during Boot and force it to BOOT from the SSD.
Also I did make a W10 ISO disc and tried to get my PC to boot from the DVD drive but again it would just hang at the VMI Pool Data screen.

I am going to just use Deamon tools to run the ISO while my PC is on (and running W7) and try to format the HDD and install W10 to the 3TB HDD using the installer.

I should also mention that if I switch out the 3TB for my old 1TB HDD everything works as I want it too. I am just trying to bring the new 3TB HDD up to speed

Thank you again for helping me out I greatly appreciate it,

So PC will boot up if 1tb drive with win 10 or 240gb ssd with win 7 is attached but not at all if 3tb drive attached?

Also, is the DVD internal or externally connected? In other words, is it USB or SATA?

I think you get that VMI warning when tyrying to boot off DVD as its ignoring the DVD altogether and is just trying to boot off the 3tb drive still

its taken me half an hour to get this much typed, Migraines suck, once it leaves me alone I will be more help to both of us.

Yes that is basically what is happening, the dvd drive is internal SATA. I think figured it out. Long story short, I had to use a program called Rufus to make Windows 10 ISO bootable from my 8gb Flash drive. I used rufus to make the iso also compatible with a GPT style HDD. I'm not at home anymore to try to install it yet though (I had to leave and keep my PC turned on while Rufus was doing its thing)
I'll update soon and let you how it goes.

You should have been able to use the Media Creation tool to make a USB, and it would have formatted the USB for you.

I thought about suggesting USB. But sometimes its just as hard to boot off as DVD.

You should have been able to set the DVD as 1st boot option in BIOS and just tapped enter after the boot window to get it to use DVD. I used DVD to install Win 10 last time on my PC as my motherboard doesn't boot off USB as easily, the dvd was just an easier choice. I still have it set as 1st device in bios for next time.

I only had a extra DVD-RW disc laying around to use for the iso but it wasnt booting from the disc, it was a bit scratched i figure maybe that was why.
So then I tried using windows media creation tool to make a bootable USB stick but the MCT wouldn't recognize my usb stick. So I downloaded iso and used rufus to make it bootable.
Which finally worked. But the windows 10 installer would still give me an error of "windows cannot be installed on Disc 2 partition 0 it is of the GPT type"
The HDD was freshley formated to GPT. I tried changing it back to MBR (but then my partition size was limited to only 2TB.)
And it worked, the installer started to install to the HDD but I cancled it because I wanted it to work with the GPT type of partition.

So I had an idea that maybe I forgot something with using RUFUS and went back and remade the iso but made sure to change the option to 'GTP' instead of 'Auto MBR or GTP'
But then after that, my pc refused to boot from the Flashdrive at all.
Even after also changing the bios setting from 'Auto' to 'EFI'.

So I just said screw it and started over. Using partition wizard to clone again the 1tb HDD to the 3tb HDD(while it was still MBR)
Then using partition wizard converted it to GPT and then extended the 'C' drive size all the way up to use the full 3TB.
It still wont boot to the HDD, but some how magically the Verifying DMI Data Pool doesn't hang anymore from a cold boot. (It still does if I try to boot from the 3tb)
It will finally boot straight into my ssd without hanging or having to press F12 to boot from SSD.

I can no longer access the windows 10 install on the new drive but atleast it boots straight into my desktop (Win 7 SSD) and I can still access all my old files just as they were with the new space (now my 3tb hdd is just an unbootable 3tb data drive) And I now have a handy windows 10 install ready on my flash drive if I ever decide to put it on my SSD. So I am satisfied, Sorry for the long read i just wanted to try to explain it well. Thank you again for your help.

Sigh

But the windows 10 installer would still give me an error of "windows cannot be installed on Disc 2 partition 0 it is of the GPT type"

The answer to this question is simple. Delete all the partitions on the 3tb drive until there is only unallocated space. Then click next. Windows 10 will format the drive as GPT and then create the 4 partitions it needs. IT may still refuse in which case, just restart PC and start installer again and it should work second time around. This is all explained at step 13 of this guide I linked you: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

I know answer to that as I had same thing happen to me the last time I reinstalled win 10 and just like you didn't know what GPT was. I had just deleted my C drive and suddenly PC was telling me it couldn't reinstall Win 10 on a drive that had just had win 10 on it.
