Cant boot to dos or windows 7

Hi, I've just installed Windows 7 onto my son's computer which we suspected had viruses.
Win7 installed fine then the screen went dead saying Input Not Supported.
Now the computer won't load past the BIOS screen, returning to the Input Not Supported message.
I've tried using the Win7 Boot CD, I've tried Ultimate Boot CD but none of these load.

Is this likely to be a virus or is it the screen resolution from Windows 7 affecting everything?

OK offically not a Windows 7 issue...
the pc will boot to Windows 7 boot disc as long as the hard drive isn't connected!????
as soon as i connect the hd again (or a spare) it refuses to boot at all.

Really strange.
Oh well I'll ask in one of the other forums.

Did you run the windows 7 upgrade advisor before installing it?You're saying that when the hd is connected windows does not boot.is that a RAID config?

If the setup runs when the hard drive is not connected, that means that there is a boot order (logically). And because of this you will need to go into your bios (rapidly press del when you start your pc) and find boot order and make cd-rom or dvd or whatever your dvd player is called as the first boot. Every pc has a boot order so you're not alone in this.

When the windows disk runs, try repairing windows first before formatting. You may want to backup some files such as internet favorites if they are not stored on a server, etc...

You can repair windows by doing a system restore, fix boot error and load image. Try fix system boot before anything as it may be the problem. If you can boot, press F8 constantly until you see an option to boot into safe mode. This will grant you access to windows without loading any drivers or viruses. Very rarely will viruses destroy safe mode. Backup your stuff, format, install windows... I would just eliminate all viruses from safe mode but if you don't know what you're doing, there may be spyware lingering around.

You may have also accidentally enabled AHCI support in your bios or windows. Disabling AHCI is incredibly hard to do and will take a lot of know-how and bios hacking and command prompt work. Your best bet is to format if you're not willing to go through all that.

I know this post is old but it come up first in Google so I will add my 2 cents.

I have seen this before. I am a repair tech myself.

This is a virus causing this and you will need to take this to a shop for repair or you could do it yourself if you can follow these steps.

1) Remove hard drive from machine.
2) Place hard drive into a different machine.
3) On different machine, remove all partitions. Can use either Acronis or Windows utilities.
4) Use Ultimate Boot CD and erase all boot sectors on the hard drive.
5) Remove the battery from the motherboard of the infected machine.
6) Place hard drive back into the no longer effected machine.
7) Start computer, enter bios and setup to your preference.
8) Restart machine with your windows disk in the drive and GO for it!

This is the ONLY way to repair this.

The virus on the infected machine is preventing the drive from mounting in bios.
Clearing is not enough to solve it as the virus does exist in the hard drive and will reinfect bios mounting as soon as you turn the machine back on after clearing bios.

You have to delete both Hard Drive partitions and Bios memory at the same time along with the clearing of all boot sector data and backup sector data in in order for this machine to work again.

Been there, done that! It sucks! a lot of work! Most people will just have to send it to a tech to fix it.

By the way, this virus comes from porn and torrent sites.
