Can't change default speed to 1866mhz

Hi,

My build is as follows:

Intel i7 4930k @ 4.5GHz @ 1.36v
Rampage IV Extreme
Corsair Vengance Pro (Model Number: cmy16gx3m2a1866c9) 16GB (2x8gb, running currently at 1.5v @ 1600mhz)

The Corsair ram is supposed to be running at 1866mhz, but I can't run it at that. I changed it manually (as well as using the XMP profile), but it causes way too many problems. What happens is that when I run it at 1866mhz, all my programs that use a lot of memory close after 10-15 minutes (photoshop, games like battlefield, video editing like vegas pro) and if I start the program again, I get the bsod. However when I crank it down to 1600mhz, none of the errors occur and it works perfectly. No bsod, no programs crashing.

I ran memtest on each individual rams and it showed 7000 errors once, so I restarted the test and this time it showed no errors. I then took each ram and I ran the test and no errors.

Am I supplying the wrong voltage to the ram at 1866mhz? I'm running it at 1600mhz and it's perfectly fine (been on for 5 hours now no crashes or bsod). I am in the process of doing an express RMA with Corsair but I'm wondering if it's just a voltage problem?

I have changed it to 1866Mhz before at 1.50v, but I'll get blue screen of deaths randomly if I use high memory programs. If I change it back then to 1600Mhz, it's stable. What should I change the voltage to, to use 1866Mhz because I always thought 1.5v @ 1866mhz is stable.

I'll report back when I get my new sticks from the RMA

I run that memory kit. Mine didn't want to run correctly at first either. However, I was finally able to get it running with the following settings in BIOS:
9-11-10-28 with Command Mode 2, DRAM Voltage 1.65, Target speed, 2133MHz.

Yes, I know its 1866MHz memory, but with my luck of the draw, I was able to get 2133MHz and still have a 9 CAS Latency. Yours may be different, as can be the case with overclocking. Just thought I'd give you a starting point in case you are interested. I actually got the numbers from someone else who overclocked it to 2133MHz, and same numbers worked for me, but I brought down the voltage from 1.7v to 1.65v over what they had, and have had zero issues with it.

I had to manually set the timings, as using the XMP profile did not work. Something is messed up with the XMP profile to try to get this RAM to run at the rated 1866MHz. Not sure what it is, but I have talked to numerous others (more than a dozen people) that have had the same issue. XMP didn't work for them, and all the timings and voltage had to be manually input. Just manually input what you need and do it that way. My ASUS motherboard let's me do it, I'm sure the Rampage IV does as well, as it is better suited to overclocking then the model I have. Funny how everyone I talked to with a Corsair Vengeance memory issue had an ASUS board.

See if manual entry works for you. If you feel brave, then go for the overclock, but I assume no responsibility for it. :)

I will try your method right now, do you think it's the sticks? Or just the batch in general since so many people are having this problem. I have manually set the timings and the voltage as it says on the sticker behind the sticks but it won't run at 1866mhz.. only at 1600mhz.. I'll try 2133Mhz.

Nevermind :p It worked for 45 minutes, but didn't work. I got bsod, it's now at 1600Mhz, i'll just wait until i get new sticks and report back.
