I recently had Xfinity install a new modem that runs two wifi networks. Let's call the first one "Wifi 1" and the other "Wifi 2." My Toshiba Satellite L50-D only recognizes "Wifi 1" but does not recognize the other. However, all the other computers and cell phones in the household recognize both. I tried updating the drivers and even restored the laptop to factory settings but nothing seems to work. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

You've got "dual band" WiFi on your new router/modem - - 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

Unless your Toshiba laptop has a dual band WiFi adapter (unlikely if it's more than 4 years old) it will not be able to "see" or use the 5GHz WiFi band.

It's only recently that laptops are being equipped with dual-band WiFi adapters.

Interesting. What's weird is that my mom's macbook pro from 2008 detects the 5 ghz and by toshiba is like 5 years older.

Just depends on the manufacturer and/or the actual model.

Just like a car, the more you pay in a particular model range, the better specification it has.
And we all know how expensive (and well made I have to admit) Apple gear is.
In your example, Your mum's Macbook was apparently made more future-proof than your Tosh laptop.

My 4-year old Sony moby is dual-band, my 3-year old Tosh lappy isn't - - go figure.
