I took the WiFi card (Intel WM3945ABG) out of an old IBM T60 laptop and bought a mini PCIe to PCIe x1 adaptor and screwed the card in it. Then I tried putting it in x1 slot and downloading and installing the 77MB file from here then I downloaded the 25.1MB file which is the actual driver from that same page and ran it but it won't open, it just runs for a small amount of time and closes itself. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit SP1. In device manager I get it like this

I also tried with x16 slot which also didn't work. I tried botting into safe mode with networking and running that 25.1MB driver but the same thing happens. I do not know the exact model of the PCIe adaptor so I think it's the unbranded one (around 5 dollars) but it was new. I tried going from device manager->update drivers but it says newest drivers are already installed. I don't think this is relevant here because I can't even find my network but modem is Huawei HD552e (it has WiFi so I don't need a router). My ISP (which you probably never heard of) is m:tel. You can see my PC specs below. Thanks for any help.

Can you open the Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software ? You might have to switch the card on first from there, because it is a laptop card.

Yes I know that :( i'm all about bad luck. Will see again if I can go into safe mode the last time I pressed F8 my PC froze without anything on screen but fans running. All until I removed and put back BIOS battery.

Obviously bad luck tough. The driver will not install, until the card doesn't show up in device management at least as an unknown device with a yellow exclamation mark.
Well I managed to get my card into Network adapters in Device manager but now it has a yellow rectangular icon next to it. So now in Intel software it doesn't say the driver is missing but 'no supported wifi adapters available in system'
And the driver is still not installing.

But it is sure the right driver for Win 7 ? https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/50517

Thanks for the driver, don't know how I didn't think of it. Will see if it works.

EDIT: Still got nothing, so I guess this remains unsolved.
This is still what I get.

I will try some time putting it into PCIe x1 slot or putting an different WiFi card if I get one.

Thanks for all the help. I appreciate it :)
Cheers!

That is possible, nut not the case with a 3945ABG. I guess now you unplugged the bluetooth+modem card from the laptop, not the wifi by mistake? And if it is the wifi card, what type of antenna do you have connected to it ?

The mini pcie to pcie adaptor doesn't have any antenna slots. I did not unplug anything but the WiFi card from the laptop. I checked numbers and it says 3945ABG on it. The bluetooth module is way smaller than this.

I have later edited the post saying I will give it another shot next time and check back if I make it work. If not thanks again.
