I've just built a new PC and everything is working great, except I now can't get it to connect to any wireless networks.

Every time I click connect to a network, it starts connecting and I get "Checking network requirements". It then always fails and says "Can't connect to this network". I've noticed that while it's trying to connect, the wireless adapter will briefly switch to Disabled.

I've tried connecting to other networks and re-installing the drivers but still haven't had any luck. If anyone has any idea as to what else I could try, that would be great.

The adapter I'm using is an Edimax 802.11b/g/n Nano and I'm using a BTHub5 router if that helps.

Solution
Thanks everyone for the help. In the end I resorted to unplugging my router for half an hour and then manually setting up the connection. No idea why it worked that time but oh well...

Media Disconnected Wireless LAN adapter Wi-fi SOLVED

Problem:

Wi-fi networks are visible and the connection works on other devices, but on one device/laptop, it won't connect and keeps on saying 'Cannot connect to this network'.
(NB: In my case, the adapter is one from Atheros/Qualcomm)

I personally just spent two days reinstalling drivers, even reinstalling Windows (!)... nothing worked. And then I found the following solution and it saved it all.

Symptom:

- Go to elevated command prompt (go to start, type cmd.exe, then right and select 'Run as administrator')
- Type: ipconfig /all
- Go to 'Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi' (or something along those lines)
- Media State will mention: Media disconnected

Solution:

Simply go to elevated command prompt (go to start, type cmd.exe, then right and select 'Run as administrator')

Type in the first command and press enter:

ipconfig /release

Then type in the second command and press enter:

ipconfig /renew

You're done! Try connecting to your network again, enter the required credentials, and it should now connect without problems.

I had the same issue with two laptops running Windows 10. I have a ASUS 2400 router
I changed a setting on the router matching the channel bandwidth to the laptop 20/40 on 2.4 ghz
Changed the control channel to 11 from auto and changed the network key rotation interval to a much higher number

Seems to be working for now

Only my windows 10 computers are affected.
That only worked until the router network key rotation interval turned at default 360. Then I had the same issue.
Went back into the router and matched the laptop to router under Router Wireless 2.4Ghz: channel bandwidth 20/40
Changed the control channel in the router to 11 and increased the network key rotation interval to 522,222

See how long they will work now!

I'm having exactly the same problem. Wifi was working one minute, then suddenly wasn't. I'm using a Windows 10 machine with an external Netgear WNA3100 wireless n adapter. Connecting to a BT home hub 5 on 2.5ghz.

All my other devices can connect to the network fine and I can connect to other networks (BT-wifi hotspot which I'm fairly sure is actually being broadcast by my router). But when I try to connect specifically to my home network the wireless network adapter disables itself briefly, then disappears briefly from the network manager, then reappears. Then the windows wifi manager gives me the message "Can't connect to this network".

I've managed to resolve it by rebooting the rooter (as suggested above). But I would be grateful if anyone could shed some light on what's actually going on here!

That just happened to me. Turn off your Bluetooth and then try connecting again. If it doesn't work then try the reset and restart your system. Turning off the Bluetooth worked like a charm tho!

I had the same problem with three different Windows 8.1 machines when I got FiOS. All my other machines (Windows 7, Macs, iPhones, LG phone, etc.) connected right away, but the Windows 8.1 machines wouldn't do it. I read on forums etc. and found all kinds of complicated solutions that didn't work. I contacted Verizon tonight and they had me do this: choose the home network, right click, then click on "Forget this network". Then I clicked on the network again, and it immediately gave me a spot to enter the network password. The machine connected right away. I tried on another Windows 8.1 machine and it worked as well. I don't know if this will solve your issue, but wanted to mention as I wasted hours of time trying to resolve this. Anyway, good luck!

Tried it. It just removed the line "no operation can be performed on Bluetooth while it has it's media disconnected. " still it shows same for Wi-Fi. What can I do?

I restarted the laptop. Reset the settings to default by going to start up setup.
If it matters, my wifi was working fine before I used wireless mouse. It stopped working when I disconnected the mouse.

I had the same problem and today I solved it by luck ;) :

1- go to Control panel

2-select Network and sharing center

3-on the page top left --> select change adapter settings

4- then click right click on Wi-Fi icon file in this page

5- select disable and wait a minute

6- click right again on it and make it Enable again

Thats worked with me :)
Best wishes all

Turn off your firewall. I had this issue for a week. Tried everything. I have Avast Internet Security. I turned off the firewall and BINGO!!! After you connect to your network, turn the firewall back on again. I think the Avast is conflicting with the Windows Defender.
