Have been having problems within Windows 7 trying to copy and pate.

However, I have found a solution.

If you are copying from the web to Microsoft Word:

1. Open a NEW word document
2. Click on Edit in the Menu
(You will see that the copy and past options are NOT available

SO

3. Type the date
4. Now click on edit and you will see that the paste and Paste Special options are now available.

THEN

5. Go to the data which you want to copy and past
6. Highlight the information you want to copy and paste
7. Click "copy"
8. Go back to the NEW word document you previously opened
9. Now click paste

IT WOULD APPEAR THAT A NEW WORD DOCUMENT THAT HASEN'T GOT ANY DATA IN IT IS NOT ABLE TO COPY AND PASTE.

BY SIMPLY PUTING THE DATE IN THE NEW DOCUMENT, YOU HAVE MADE IT "LIVE" AND THEREFORE IT CAN NOW PERFORM THE COPY AND PASTE FUNCTION.

It's taken me some time to fathom this one out but (as an ex IT Lecturer) I was determined to solve the problem.

Have you tried selecting and copying the data you needed first, then opening the word document and pasting it? If you have data in the clipboard cache (regardless of the source of data) you will get the option to paste it in a new document, regardless if you do the date thingy or not. Try it.

NOT TRUE - IT DOSEN'T WORK WITH WINDOWS 7.

The reason I suggested opening a word document first, is to show that the copy/paste option is not avilable until some sort of data is entered into the document. When you then go to the Edit Menu it clearly shows that the options are now available, i.e. the Word Document becomes active/live - showing Paste and Paste Special which were previously "dimmed".

Your explanation is the NORMAL route, but believe me, it really is a problem within Windows 7. It was because I saw so many Internet users were frustrated by the copy/paste problem that I set about trying to solve the problem.

The reason I posted the step by step instruction was to prove to the readers who have the problem that it can work if the step by step instructions are followed.

I've just taken a "print screen" to paste below but the "Paste" option is not currently available from the menu above the screen I am currently working on!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for responding; do have a look at the numerous internet links concerning copy and paste within Windows 7.

Hi Traildriver

As previously said, I am an ex IT Lecturer.

For the first few lessons with a new group of students, they were not allowed to us the mouse and had to learn ALL of the shortcut manouvers.

This was to aid their "speed" of input when an EXAM was on the horizon.

If you count how many times you stop to grab the mouse, move the mouse to the menu, click the menu, travel down the menu, click the option you want (e.g. PRINT) it is all time consuning when all you want to do is print the document - pressing CTRL P (to print) accounts for one manouver instead of 5 and really speeds up data input - and you haven't taken your hands off the keyboard!

So, in answer to your question, I always use the shortcut keys.

Thanks for your response Traildriver.

OK, then; no reason to get testy here, Traildriver was just asking you a legitimate question, he was not questioning your background.
On this forum everyone is equal.
On the topic: I have done some Googling regarding this issue and there are some conflicting reports: some users have reported the issue solved after repairing the registry via a Windows repair/install, others via sfc /scannow, while still others have not been successful using any of the fixes posted. There seem to be more than one issue that's causing this behavior.
I have not been able to replicate the issue myself, but that's just my experience. In my case, having data in the clipboard has worked every time. From some forums one can think that MS Office's clipboard is conflicting/breaking the Win clipboard, and as I do not use MS Office, I did not find this bug. I can suggest that this is an MS Office bug, not a Windows bug.

Hi House70

Sorry if my input came across as "tetchy". I'm currently suffering from conjunctive itis and am really frustrated at having to use a magnifying glass to read responses and work efficiently. (The print is agonisingly small and, consequently blurred). Think I'll take a few days off from posting ANY messages and, hopefully, once the condition clears up I'll be more approachable.

Thanks for your response.

PS Can't even play my piano - can't see the music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ran into a different "cut-and-paste" problem when trying to paste into the old Windows XP word program from WORKS. I was unable to "cut-and-paste" into WORKS documents even after the Works document was active and even had been filed. By trial-and-error I discovered that if I cut-and-paste from the Internet into Windows 7 NOTEPAD, then cut and paste from NOTEPAD to WORKS -- it works!
Can anyone find a simpler solution?

Can anyone else help?

p.s. My Nitro Pro trial expired and I was able to convert the document to Adobe pdf, but still can't copy and paste to notepad.

I started having this problem when MS sent automatic updates in late 2014 (approximately... not sure). I have
done it successfully for years with MS Outlook 2003... now it won't work. It worked fine with Windows 98, XP & 7 until
late 2014... now won't work with 7 or 10 (10 is awful). Anyway, if this thread isn't dead, I'd appreciate some more suggestions; the ones above didn't help. Seems MS is deliberately killing features to force us into new software, programs, or (present buzzword) APPS !
