Can't decide between 29'' or 34'' Ultra-wide or 27''

Hello. I am going to get a new monitor to replace my dual set up. 23'' and 14'' Monitor

I usually do video editing and little gaming. The only reason I don't game as much is that I am waiting to get a new monitor to improve my experience. I am mainly going to play Witcher 3 or maybe some flight sims.

My question is about viewing distance. In terms of quality and real estate it is already pretty obvious and clear. (Your additional opinion would be appreciated tho) I mainly want to get the 34 inch because I want to be "fully immersed" on my gaming - also because its huge. I do not care for 1440p gaming and 4k.

My max viewing distance would be 2.5ft - 2.8ft and this is already putting the monitor on the edge of my desk and stretching my arms all the way to reach my kb and mouse.

will the 34 be too much? Will I start seeing pixels? I don't mind moving my head a bit to look at the corners of the screen. For me, this is part of the experience of using a big screen.

Based on my viewing distance which monitor should I get? I don't mind getting a 27'' since its the cheapest option among the three. Although, I don't consider this much of an upgrade from what I am using now. Same goes for using a 29'', I feel like it is not going to be much of a difference.

i am using a 25" at the same viewing distance , looks good . But a 29" could surely be accommodated and will look better.
34" ultra wide is a also a good option however a costly one and not value for money in my opinion.
When i was searching , the LG ultraWIDE 25" and a 27" monitor had same cost and the length of both was same while height of 25" UW was 2 inch smaller. But after that prices skyrocket . You can also go for 2 Curved 27" , samsung has launched 2 cheap curved FHD IPS monitor as well.

Well I'm personally about to move from a 22" to a 27" or 34", I have some friends with bigger panels and i think is much better! Plus you are gonna upgrade from 16:9 to 21:9 wich is alway mind blowing 😀

The main reason I am worried is because if I pick the 29'' which will save me tons of money, I might be unsatisfied and start kicking myself for not getting the 34''. I know there is a huge difference but coming from a 23'' I am hoping that the 29'' would be enough.

Remember that the difference between a 29" and a 34" is the same difference between a 24" and a 29",
34" is big money, but if you plan to use it for a long time you will have no regrets!

I've been using a tape measure, extending it to the additional size ill get then resting it on top of my current monitor to have a feel for the size increase. It does help a bit but I think ill really need to look for an actual 29'' or 34'' to tell the difference in person. Thanks for the advice

hey sorry to keep you hanging, Wasnt online last few days. Trust me 29" is really big for desk purposes in a good way.
34" inch is real big investment and to be honest a little too big unless you are 4ft away. Longs sessions and browsing becomes eye straining at shorter distances. Although saying that a jump from 24 to 29 is the same as 29 to 34 is wrong since screen area increases squarely with the inch specification which corresponds to the diagonal of the monitor.
a 24" 16:10 has a screen area of 258 sq unit, 27" 16:10 has 327 sq units. 29" 16:10 has 390 sq unit , 29" 21:9 has 304 sq unit 34" 21:9 has 420 sq unit.
Moral of the story ultraWide looks good costs more but provides lesser screen space for more money.

Thanks for the reply buddy, this is really good information for me in helping me decide which one to get. I am currently now leaning towards a 29'' since this will also allow me to get a SSD or a better PSU with the money i'll save.

Just mentioning. I have an Acer Predator 34" curved monitor and I have never needed four feet of viewing distance. Expensive, but thoroughly enjoyed Witcher 3.

That's fine. Im getting the monitor in a few days from now. I guess to finally satisfy this curiosity ill just make a cardboard cut out and try to simulate it on my desk.
