Hey, so my monitor is allienware 2521hf and with a previous newer card i could do 240hz just fine but now with the gtx 760 i can only go up to 144hz, i have the dp cable that i could do 240 on peviously so whats wrong?

Hi Miltosss. I don't think the GTX 760 supports 1080p 240 Hz, even through DisplayPort. I base this opinion purely on my Google query: "gtx 760 240hz". There are way too many people stating this problem, and very few solutions. The only viable option is what rgd1101 last suggested. I'm sorry and wish that I had better news to report to you. For what it's worth, I hope that I'm wrong.

ok thx

Sounds like a lost cause.

What I would do: Sell the GTX 760 and buy a newer generation GPU 900 series or 10 series; Maxwell or Pascal. But I would go down a performance tier at the same time, to save money. So instead of having a GTX 760, I'd swap to a GTX 1050 Ti, or whatever would get me the frames that I needed. It would be two generations newer, and very likely to support 1080p 240 Hz, or whichever framerate you're trying to achieve. You'll probably want to buy the replacement GPU before selling your current one.

Am I correct in guessing that you're playing CSGO or R6? Regardless, you might be able to achieve your FPS goal with competitive settings.

Also, Nvidia no longer updates their driver suite for 700 series cards. You'll be able to get drivers, but they will no longer be updated. If you bought the 1050 Ti, you'd be two generations ahead, which still makes it a five year old architecture though. I think Kepler is maybe eight years old? A GTX 1050 Ti has double the VRAM of the 760 (4GB vs 2GB). And it only consumes 75 watts, versus 170 for the GTX 760. And on top of everything, the 1050 Ti should be minimally faster.

I wonder if while the dp port support 1.2, the gpu itself can't process that much bandwidth
Bandwidth is unlikely to be an issue: 24Gbps (enough for 4k60/1080p240) is only 3GB/s and the GTX760 has enough VRAM bandwidth to refresh that even at idle memory clocks. It is more likely that Nvidia didn't design the vsync circuitry to reliably go that high since 120Hz was pretty new and very expensive back in 2013, can't really blame Nvidia for not foreseeing that some people may want to use 240Hz on a relatively low-end card eight years later.

Perhaps the GTX 760 has some sort of limitation (intended or not) for higher than 144 Hz, after all is a model from 2013. I believe not even 75Hz monitors were that comon back then, and probably not cheap either.
The first 120Hz LCD monitors were introduced in 2010.

Also, if you include CRTs, 100+Hz has been around since the 90s - I used to have an Viewsonic p95f and that thing could do 1280x1024 at 107Hz, though I mostly used it at 1600x1200 and 75Hz since geometry was a PITA to calibrate when approaching max specs.

I see, well perhaps display port was not soo popular back in 2013 so its not fully unleashed on the GTX 760?

I hope one day I can afford a decent 1440p, high refresh rate panel, IPS and at least 27", but even if I can afford it I need to be able to get it where I live, which is usually the hard part.

What country do you live in if you do not mind me asking?

I don't mind, Argentina.

Between the very high importing taxes, internal taxes and the very few brands available it gets really hard to get what you want.

Not to mention most people low salary which basically sucks.

I got my eye on a few LGs display (27 and 32 inches, IPS, 1440p @ 180Hz) Ive seen reviews, really like 32 inches, but I've only seen the 27" model available (from an unknown vendor) and its way too expensive, at least for me. They don't have it on stock either, you have to pay for it beforehand , and then the vendor takes up to 45 days to deliver it.

I'm not a betting man, but I'd bet that if you were shown a game being played at various frame rates from, say, 144 on up, you wouldn't be able to accurately say what the frame rate was without seeing a counter, nor respond quickly enough to take advantage of such frame rates.

But maybe monitor marketing knows something that science doesn't.
I think ltt did a video like that and 60 to 144 is a big difference but after that its barely noticeable
