Ok, I'm trying to set up a wired network (it will not have an internet connection) with a Linksys BEFVP41 EtherFast Cable/DSL VPN Router with 4-Port 10/100 Switch. (Whew!) So I'm trying to set it up with a MacBook Pro 13" running OSX 10.8.4. I have the computer directly wired to the router with (obviously) an ethernet cable. Anyways, this router has a row of lights on it above the port # this is plugged into with "Link/Act" green, "Full/Col" green, "100" orange. Then above WAN: "Link" green, "Act" red, "Diag" red. Power is green. Now on the computer, in system preferences under network, under ethernet, here's what shows up:
Status: Connected (Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address 169.254.186.231.)
Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
IP Address: 169.254.186.231
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Router:
DNS Server:
Search Domains:
As you can see, the router is assigning the computer an IP address, but I can't see the router address. To set up my network, I need to type the router IP address into the browser to access its control page. (Right?) Currently when I type the linksys standard router IP address, nothing shows up. Except when I'm connected to the wifi (which also happens to be a linksys router). So when I'm not connected to wifi, the standard IP address for linksys routers does NOT work.
EDIT: I've tried factory resetting it as well. The online page says the power light should be blinking when you hold down the reset button. It doesn't, and nothing changes.
Thanks!
Noah
