In the Disk Management window, the option to format my SSD is grayed out. See attached image.

I'm trying to format my SSD to put into a new computer build so that I can install windows to a clean drive rather than overwriting onto an existing installation.

Hey!

You cannot format the drive that contains the operating system because the application that actually facilitates the format is on that drive.
Download windows 10 or 7 from here:
WIN 10
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10
(download the tool)

WIN7
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows7

Download this onto a CD or a flash drive then launch it from the BIOS. This will install a fresh windows however ensure you have a key! If not do not worry, you can still download windows for free, just one day when your ready, purchase a key or just seperately run a windows disk.

Good luck! Hoped I helped!

Haha, that is incredibly obvious now that you point it out. Thanks for the clarification. I wanted to format it via disk management versus the windows boot up option because I read that it's better to do so, but I may have no other choice unless I get an external drive reader.
