Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600) (9600.winblue_r4.141028-1500)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6500 CPU @ 3.20GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
Motherboard

I have all my settings set to low in various games (Apex Legends recently) and I'm still barely able to maintain 120 FPS in all of them, only rarely does it ever make it to 144 and that's when barely anything is happening ingame. What could possibly be causing this? I have two sticks of ram in my PC btw.

What resolution is your monitor?

I'm given to understand that Apex Legends is badly optimized. Also, I'm not sure you should expect miracles out of a 1060, in terms of frame rates.

That said, here's a guide I ran across, although it emphasizes going for higher settings.

Thanks. I'm currently running 1920 x 1080. Not sure if that makes a difference but I'll check your link out.

What is your cpu usage in game, are any cores hitting 100%?

Is this normal?

Use a program like MSIAfterburner, that screenshot is not conclusive. It does show the cores are hitting 100% but that might be for a fraction of a second or permanently stuck at 100%. MSIAfterburner will show you useage plotted on a graph against time.

Here's what the graphs look like after a bit of gameplay, I should mention that I get the smoothest frames after a fresh restart start of my system (I just reinstalled my OS as well yesterday). CPU usage goes down ofc when the game is not the active window.
