Does anyone know how i can play games in 1440p,60hz on my 4k tv? it plays 1080p and 4k on 60 hz but no 1440p. Only gives me 30hz max as an option. Ive tryed using nvidia control panel for a custom rez and the screen just goes black if i try to force 59 or 60 hz on 1440p. Its a 55' phillips tv
and i have a 980ti. Is this a tv software thing or what?

Please halp :/

Hello,

I'm having the same issue here. Different TV, but same issue.

I have a long HDMI cable (30m) supporting 4K@60Hz, but not supporting 1440p@60 Hz, only 30 Hz.

The thing is, it works when using another shorter HDMI cable...

Depending on the HDMI cable version, frequencies may be quite limited in terms of their outputting at resolutions larger than 1080p. Typically a cable older than HDMI v2 cannot ever exceed 4k at 30hz. The newer HDMI 2 cables however can, so if you want to try you can get go to your nearest shop to get a HDMI 2 cable.
Displayport cables, however, which look very similar to HDMI cables are not to be confused with each other. These superior cables can do everything a HDMI cable can...and more. So if your TV has compatible display ports, then get a display port cable instead.

HDMI 2.0 does not refer to the cable itself. It refers to the HDMI ports.
The only difference for cables is if they're classified as "high speed" or not.

Both my HDMI ports are 2.0, otherwise, I wouldn't get 4K@60Hz.

This might sound insultingly simple but this is what worked for me

I didnt notice this was an issue until i rolled back my tv software
Never had a "1440p 30 hz" issue
Troubleshot for hours and to no avail.
I then realized that my tv was not synced to "game console" (samsung) and once i did that and activated "UHD color" it worked and to confirm it did i r-opened my control panel via nvida and it now registered 1440p 60 hz

If you have a gaming mode i suggest turn that on, on a samsung its called "game console" for which i have run into gaming related issues if i left it on standard pc input.

Im not saying this is a fix all, it worked for me, the only thing that did. I tried forcing via panel and i got a black screen.

almost every error i have found in relation to an HZ issue, one which the tv should be able to output as well as having the correct hdmi, points to the gaming mode or game console source

Same problem here but I figured out that my problem was that I was using my TV which is 4k, set at desktop resolution 1080p. I had read somewhere at one time to set a custom resolution in nvidia graphics manager to 2560x1440 on top of my 1080 display. This worked for me for a few games but I wasn't happy. So I then set my pc graphics to it's 4k settings at 60hz. Boom! Now everything I play has the 1440 60hz option. Hope this helps someone as it was driving me nuts!
