Can't get into BIOS on Toshiba Satellite E55T-A5320

I did a clean install of W10 x64 Enterprise on the subject laptop. I am guessing that the BIOS resided on a hard drive partition. I haven't seen that situation in a long time, so I am not particularly careful what partitions I save and what partitions I remove.

I *guess* this is what happened because when I power the machine up and tap F2 repeatedly or F12 all I see is a turning blue window. It never goes into the BIOS anymore.

I did a quick BIOS download from Toshiba's website and tried to install it. I got an error saying that the BIOS I had on the machine was the same as the one being installed so it refused to install it.

So I guess the BIOS is there which *might* blow my theory of removing it out of the water?

I have tried to power the laptop up with F2 held down or F12 held down to no avail.

I also replaced the keyboard recently. I really hope that I didn't mess up something inside when I did. Replacing the keyboard was a nightmare that I don't want to revisit. It involved removing the bottom cover, so I guess it's possible?

Thanks

Well that is encouraging. No I didn't read the manual. I verified that F2 gets me into the BIOS and F12 allowed me to change boot devices in the past though. In fact, I made some labels and put them on the bottom cover like I do every laptop. Something has changed here. I have had the laptop for 2 years and those 2 keys always functioned correctly.

If you suspect the keyboard of the laptop may be at fault, why not simply connect a desktop Usb keyboard to the laptop via its usb ports.

And check to see if pressing the F2 key on that keyboard results in getting you to the bios setup of the laptop ?
It will confirm that if you had to fit a new laptop keyboard.

It is still not fitted or connected properly and the F2 key is not working on the laptops keyboard.

I`m surprised you never thought of this if you say you replaced the laptops keyboard recently.

Try plugging in a usb desktop keyboard, hitting the F2 key on power up of the laptop.

Hi

Getting into BIOS or nowdays on recent PC's UEFI with Win 8 or 10 is more difficult than it used to be with previous versions of Windows

see this site with several options to do this
( I am assuming you can boot up into Windows 10 OK)

What operating system was previously on this laptop?
have you loaded all the Toshiba specific Windows 10 drivers?

Solution

No need to get smart, I never claimed to know everything and if I did I certainly wouldn't be here asking for help. I have tried an external keyboard and that doesn't allow me to get into the BIOS. The F2 key functions within Windows as it shoes e.g. it has the capacity to rename a given file on my desktop.

I'll try your suggestions. I believe that I might have tried some of the alternative ways of entering the BIOS, but I'll be sure to review.

The previous OS was Windows 7. I can't say that I have loaded all of the Toshiba specific W10 drivers. I like to keep it simple and use OEM drivers when I detect an obvious problem. Do you suggest that I proceed with loading all Toshiba W10 drivers?

Thanks.
