When I first installed it, it said something about directx user end time to get overlays to appear. The program will open to log in but after it logs in it just sits at the bottom of my icon tray. And if I click it , it wont open the program.

Any chance you had 2 monitors installed, sounds like it is running but out in video "black hole" like when the program is maximized it's on a second desktop not displayed on your monitor. Hard to describe what I'm suggesting but that could be direct x related, which is video related.
That message that appeared when you first installed the program probably pointed out some useful information that may give you a better idea of why the program will not run.

Is the NZXT cam software compatible with the version of WIndows that you are currently running. If so, try uninstall and re intall, watch for and grab that message that pops up.

Yeah its compatible I just finished a build and fresh installed windows.
and tried to put it on my new build and that message came up. But I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and now the message doesn't reappear but the software itself wont open. It shows its running in the bottom tray and if i put my mouse over it it will show it running in the little preview box.

You were right. Thanks! I just got help on this and they suggested the same thing that it was on a different screen or monitor. Heres what they had me do in case anyone else runs across this with the same problem. A solution is to Shift + R-Click the CAM taskbar icon, select Move, and use the Arrow Keys to return the CAM window to your usable desktop space.

The weird thing about this though is I have never had a second screen hooked up so I don't know how it got moved to a different screen.

This solved my issue. Nice. But every time i restart the CAM software, it starts off-screen, forcing me to move it each time. Did you find a way so that it would start on-screen?

I am getting the exact same issue after just finishing a build
