I play a lot games with both Multiplayer and Single player elements gmod, starbound, terraria, ARK survival evolved and space engineers which all have one thing in common.
The fact that you can host servers on your computer so that friends can play with you, my problem is as the title of this thread says i can't host a server. I mean we would go with the easier option of going with a server host but it's 5 people at most so it's not really worth it.

this isn't a normal issue either, my friend bob on the same wifi can host servers fine without any complex setup and i can join him and other friends not on my wifi can too. But no matter who is attempting to join my server we can't seem to get mine working which is especially annoying considering i have the best computer out of our lot so if i hosted the server would be most stable.

it does seem to be a port issue (port checker) but it's my computer not the router considering the earlier points mentioned sooooo...... any idea's?

Solution
There can be a number of reasons that you can't host a server despite your computer...

As you mentioned above, it could be something related to these below -

1 - Your Firewall is blocking those games somehow, if it's not a Windows Firewall then it could be the problem as you said your Friend "Bob" doesn't have this issue and he is connected to the same "WiFi" network..

2 - You could have any software blocking these games. AntiViruses, or any Security Softwares could be the reason why u can't host a server, try to check if there's anything blocking those games...

3 - Like you said, it could be a port-forwarding issue, it doesn't matter if Bob is connected to the same WiFi, both computers (yours and his) have different IP addresses...

Hope that helps

Solution

i had already tried the first two many times but the third way worked thanks i thought the ports worked the same way for everyone on the network and that it was a problem with my computer which i suppose in a way it was

I'm glad that it worked out for you :), as regarding your thoughts, the answer is "no" simply put.. each computer needs a different IP address so it won't have trouble or any conflict when using the internet even when they are connected on the same modem or network, and so does the ports for each one of these IPs, forwarding fixes most of these issues.
