Hello everyone,
I have never built a PC before, neither have I ever installed windows on any computers either.
I am brand new to both, I got some older computers so I can learn how to build a pc and program one.
The computer I am working with will not let me install Windows 10 Home via USB.
I keep getting and error message (windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. installation cannot proceed)
The computer is working with a 160 gig SATA HDD that has windows 10 pro on it.
What I am trying to do is install a 160 gig intel SSD which is blank, & install windows 10 home.
The computer boots and goes to install i go through all the settings & partitions but then just as its finishing I get the (windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. installation cannot proceed)
Now I have read that I need to change the BIOS from UEFI to Legacy boot & disable secure boot.
My BIOS does not list either one of these. (maybe its called something else in my BIOS ?)
I have tried RUFUS but I am still getting the same error.
Can I update the BIOS so that it will have these settings ? (I checked HP's website and couldn't find any BIOS update, But maybe I don't know where to look?)
Can I bypass the BIOS settings so it will install Windows 10 ?
The PC currently has a working HDD with windows 10, how the guy I bought this PC from managed to install windows 10 on it is beyond me.
Like I say I am brand new and have no experience with programing what so ever.
System Model : HP compaq 6200 pro sff pc
Processor: Intel(R) core(TM) i3-2100 @ 3.10ghz
BIOS version/date: hewlett-packard j01 v02.06, 2011-06-09
BIOS mode: UEFI
RAM: 12 gigs
I know this can be done, basically I am missing something in the settings from what I gather.
That is why I have asked you all very experienced builders !
Thank you
