Hi ppl!

I'm here to join the sorrowful ranks of the Windows10less. The error is as follows: Everytime I run the media-creation tool (64bits), either if I click in "Upgrade this PC" or "extract to USB flashdrive" or "extract to ISO", every single time I get the "Something Happened" screen with this error code: "0x80070070 - 0xC19001DF". In all the drives I tried to download the file I had ample room. C drive had over 5 gbs (SSD), USB flashdrive had 8GB and then I tried in my other drive that I use for games and stuff that has over 500Gbs free. Always the same error. I googled it and many people fixed the problem by changing the langue to English US in control panel (which I did, in all tabs, to no avil). I'm going nuts. I've been waiting for Win10 for a long time, reserved the copy through the icon on the task bar and nothing.

Please, I don't know what else to do, can anyone help? 🙁

Solution
Using the Media Creation Tool shouldn't need specific Admin rights, I didn't. But if it helps, you can unlock the real Administrator account.

For Win 8.1

For Win7

Using the Creation tool is simple, just choose the bootup method and download the exact Windows version your key is used for.

I'm the only one that uses this computer. It's admin.

https://www.yahoo.com/tech/s/unplug-hard-drives-windows-10-023523070.html is a reprint of a TechRepublic.com article that mentions that error. Disconnect other drives that may have confusing partitions. I though I had removed all partitions from a drive and had it connected when I installed using the Creation Tool. It proceeded but I reinstalled when updates were failing. A partition labeled alternately as OEM or Recovery was still present from the Technical Preview install on another computer.
If that isn't the problem the article mentions the official workaround.

Solution

Installations are more critical about the status of the hard drive. Check the SMART status of both drives for comparison. By the time SMART notifies you of drive failure it is almost too late.
One drive probably has software/registry issues. I was preparing to return a motherboard but after eliminating all hardware suspects I installed to a failing drive to get a stable system. I had messed around with trying to get a free Win 10 and after abandoning that I did a system restore that resulted in restarts several times an hour. Still waiting on the Retail version to install but the system is stable so the SSD should work. I had to run Diskpart twice to eliminate the Restore partition on that 5 year-old drive but it runs too warm for comfort to actually use.
I got the Creation tool to update a fairly new installation but had no luck creating the USB for clean installation. Later I found there were two items to set for USB in my BIOS.
