100 gb hd

Nvidia Gforce 7300

thank you and hope you can help me

Did you run Update Advisor? It was available on Microsoft web site when they offered Win 7 to Win 8 upgrade. What OS version do you have installed now? There is a setting that not all Core computers have- Upgrade Advisor scans for it and would let you know if your computer can be upgraded. I have 2 Core 2 Duo computers, 2.66 and 2.8 Ghz, and Upgrade Advisor said- they can not be upgraded. See if you can find it on Microsoft web site and run it.

Yes, after some steps , the aplication offers me to buy the 2 versions of windows 8 , so, i deduce it is compatible with my laptop. I have now windows 7 pro instaled. When i bought the laptop it came with windows xp.

I dont know what can happen to not allow me to install win 8.1 🙁

I'd like to suggest that this may be a good time to invest in a new laptop.
Even if you were to get Windows 8.1 installed, you would not have the best user experience by any means.
If you are still running on the original HDD, I would suggest that it has probably reached the end of it's life expectancy.

Run hardware tests with UBCD and see what results you get.

Insert the Windows 8 DVD or flash drive, then go to BIOS.
Set everything to default
Choose a one-time boot option for the DVD or USB.

Post results.

yes , i heve cheked hd and ram and results of analisis says that there are no problems with any of thwo. I think that, if this computer runs well (better with w8) i can be ussing it for a bite of time more becouse i have a desktop computer. I use the laptop on holydays when i am far from home

Yes , i have set bios to default. With one-time option you are referig to pres esc and set the device to boot in a little menu? I have done that. Here a video about the problem And an image of my bios setting, to show you in a better way all posible settings

Okay, thanks for supplying the video.
This would indicate to me that your system has faulty memory even though the analysis passes.

When the Windows icon appears on the screen it is copying files to your RAM, and when the wheel appears, it is trying to access to copied files. The fact that it crashes suggests that the RAM is at fault.
Try another module and see what happens.

Thanks for the answer. I will do that. Other question, do you thing that my laptop have one module of 2 gb or 2 modules of 1 gb? if it would have 2 modules of 1 gb i could use only one to see what happens?.

regards

I have noticed that my laptop have 2 modules of 1 gb
I have just check the 2 modules of 1 gb by separated ways and the issue persist. If this method have failed i supose that ram is ok, becouse is too probability that the 2 modules be crashed and windows 8 can run with only 1 gb. I havn't any idea about what more try. :??:

I can't find this setting on my bios, on boot menu it isn't. On the image of the other post , http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/5822/a2xs.jpg

where can be this setting?. (to see well the image download it and make zoom, is in high resolution.)

I thing that my bios dont have uefi. I have downloaded the last bios version from asus web, (2008 date)

sorry for make you waste your time solving this issue:)

Yes sorry I keep on forgetting the age of the laptop. The UEFI setting probably not be there.
I am annoyed at this issue now but I really have no more suggestions.

It's very difficult to advise on this kind of thing without having the laptop in front of me.

If all else fails, you could take it to a PC repair shop, though they will most likely tell you to upgrade the laptop.

All the best, and sorry I couldn't be more help.

Joe.

Ok . thanks for the help i will continue using windows 7 then until i find the solution to the problem.

regards and merry christmas

Quite frankly it's really all not that interesting. It's all about the cpu/mobo combination supporting a few instructions. The instructions you'll need are: CompareExchange16b, PrefetchW and LAHF/SAHF. Now, most computers from the Windows XP-area donot support the CMPEX16B, nor the PrefetchWT1. In this case, I guess it's only the PrefetchWT1 that is not supported. Yes, this thread is old...yet it is still very valuable to alot of people out there. And I figured it useful to add this little snippet of information.

I have similar ASUS laptop and I am encountering the same problem.
I know that the laptop supports Windows 8 because I have installed in the past, but now I can't install 8 or 8.1, only can re install windows 7.

I tried with one RAM stick but the problem still persists. I think it is something with the motherboard, but why it allows me to install Windows 7, but not Windows 8?

No. I thought it was because of some RAM error or motherboard error, but more people with ASUS laptops with the same problem may mean that these older laptops are not supported.
BUT the Windows 8 support tool doesn't show compatibility issues and I remember that I already tried Windows 8 technical preview few years ago. Maybe that had the Windows 7 kernel, I would like to know WHAT have changed in installation process since Windows 7 because I can install the 7.

Windows 7 run, but when try to install windows 8.1 say : Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart ".
Windows assistant show that laptop is compatible with Windows 8.
If anyone found any solution ?
