Cant log into my computer vista

Hello,
I keep trying to log on to my computer, and I get as far as the username and password portion but it won't let me log in! I can't get onto my desktop or anywhere past that page! Can anyone help!

What do you mean? Did you forget your password? Or does it start to log in and then log back off? Does it freeze when you get to that page? Did you install anything recently? More information please.
