I have scheduling system software on my xp computer for my salon. I transferred the software/file to my new windows 7 computer. I can't open it! I have tried Tornado transfer, flash drive transfer and external hard drive. (It will open on an old computer), but not windows 7. Help!

Hi, I assume that's the problem. Just womdering if there is a way around that. Thanks.

Assuming you've actually installed the software on the Windows 7 computer (Windows programs cannot be moved/copied by just copying their folders), then most likely it is a 16-bit program that you are trying to run on Windows 7 64-bit. I'm assuming because you did not provide any details. If my assumptions are correct, then probably your only choice is to run the salon scheduling software in a virtual machine, a copy of Windows XP that runs on Windows 7.

If you have Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate, then you can run their copy of Windows XP in XP Mode. If you only have Windows 7 Home Premium then you'll have to run another free virtual machine emulator, such as Virtual Box.

But as ss202sl said, first try XP compatibility mode. Right-click on the program's shortcut, click on Properties, then click on the Compatibility tab, and put a checkmark in the box labeled "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", and use the dropdown box to select Windows XP.

I have not installed the software. I tried transferring only because my client info is already set up. A new install has none of my info. I was hoping not to start fresh on new computer. When I tried compatibility mode the screen became huge. I'm not too savvy with this issue as you may know........
