I am trying to port forward on my ASUS router but I can't for some reason, the ports do not read as being opened. I have Xfinity and an Xfinity router that they gave us, but we bought an ASUS RT-AC66U for better range/convenience. I can port forward successfully on the Xfinity router with the ports being read as opened, but when i connect to the ASUS router and try to port forward the same way, it doesnt work. I know that my IPV4 address changes with the change in routers, and I did try both my ASUS and Xfinity IPV4 address when port forwarding. I connect to my routers wirelessly with a wireless adapter because I am in a different room.

Change Router IP Address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 (or anything other than x.1) if using a seperate modem.

I have been battling with this issue with Port forwarding and Asus RT-AC68U
One thing I had not been considering is my Fibre Modem (BT Openreach Fibre modem) for BT Infinity.
The Homehub that comes supplied is by default set as 192.168.1.254
The Asus (and presumably most other routers) are usually defaulted as 192.168.1.1
However what I found is that the fibre modem is actually taking 192.168.1.1 and therefore struggles to do the correct forwarding. (The weird thing being that I could actually remotely connect to the router from the WAN on 8080 if you set that option to enable.)
With all the port forwarding enabled to the ports I needed I couldn't get an open port.
Using any port checker like http://checkmyports.net/ I could also confirm the ports weren't opening.

The moment I changed my router ip address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254, the ports started forwarding....

And that was it.

5 months of my life wasted, but I hope someone else finds this useful.

Let me know if this works for anyone else or I'm just lucky.
