Can't put SD card back into the same phone

I was hoping to change to a 64 micro SD card, but found out the phone max is 32. I didn't know the proper way to remove the card. I just took it out. Now I can't put it back. Tells me to Mount SD card even though it is. Once I did get option to format but nothing happened. This is a ZTE N817 from Qlink so the built in storage is almost nothing. I really need this back. Any help would be great. And talk to me like I'm your grandma, I won't be offended.

Hello Grandma, was the phone turned off when you removed the SD card? If not it may be ruined. Do you have a different micro SD card you could test out in the phone? Make sure you have backed up the data if it was used in another device, because installing it in the phone and formatting will erase the data.

Yes I think the phone was on, but not sure. But I know I didn't unmount it. And yes a different sd card works fine. I tried to put back in, but didn't get the option to reformat. There is nothing that important on it. To be honest I just can't really afford a new one right now. Thats why I'm on Qlink. I've been reading about trying to reformat with my Windows 7 laptop but sounds confusing.

There is no procedure that I know of to properly remove a SD card from a phone, other than to have the phone turned off when removing. You could try formatting it in your laptop to see if the SD card is usable. If you can successfully format it in the laptop, then try it back in the phone. The phone will want to format it again, to make it compatible with the phone's OS. If you can't format it with the laptop, then the SD card is probably dead.
