Hello All,

I have my TV connected to my video card ( Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420) via s-video. I am able to see my desktop displayed on the TV and everything else without problems. However, when I play a DVD movie, the player's frame is visible on the TV but the DVD movie cannot be seen. The portion of the player's screen where the video should appear is just black.

Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
BBR

It probably has to do with the resolution that the 2nd desktop (the TV) is set at. Try running the TV and your primary monitor at the same resolution, it might work. Also make sure the "Extend Desktop..." box is checked in the display config menu. I've had this problem before, so I'm trying to remember how it was fixed, but being at work, I can't check till tonight.

Thanks for your suggestions, I will give them a shot.

I believe all my settings check out since I can see everything on my desktop in my TV except for DVD movies. I can even see the frame of the player (WinDVD, Windows Media Player) but the middle part, where the movie should be is just blank. Really weird.

Anyway, I did more testing and here's what I got:
1. If I play a DVD movie with a disk in the DVD drive, I can see the movie in TV.
2. If I play a DVD movie on my hard drive, I can't see the movie in the TV.

It looks like there's a difference in playing the movie from the DVD drive vs the hard drive.

The NV11 and NV12 cores only supports dma overlay (which how they do DVD playback) on the primary display. If you have both a TV and monitor connected simultaneously, you will have to select the TV to be the primary display.

That did the trick. By switching the TV to primary, I can watch the DVD movie from the hard drive.

Thanks a lot.
