I did try the internet troubleshooter, and like most Microsoft repair programs, it found nothing and was useless. I don't know why a new driver would help--the
internet was working when I installed the update (from 8.1). It could be the fault of some program I installed, but looking at the dates of new programs in the download directory does not clue me in to a program that might be at fault. Specs on the home-brewed machine are as follows, per Linux inxi -F:
MOBO: Foxconn G41MXE/G41MXE/K/ Bios American Megatrends v 080015 dated 10/14/2010. CPU: Intel Core2 duo E8600; Graphics card NVidia GF116 (GeForce GTX 550 Ti);Network card (not the one on the MOBO) Realtek RTL8169 PCI Gigabit Ethernet controller driver r8169 (Don't know if this is a Linux
driver or a Windows driver--all I know is what inxi reports.)IF: eth1 state: up speed: 1000MBPS duplex: full. I don't remember why I'm not using the mobo Ethernet connection, but I would npt have put in the card (which cost me a slot) if I didn't have to. Drives: Samsung SSD 850, 250 GiB. (2). Partitioning:
sda1, sda2: Windows, sda6,sda7
CLOS. sdb1 empty; sdb5: Linux Mint; sdb6: empty; sdb7,sdb8: PCLOS backup; sdb9: Linux swap.
Yes, I know I should have put a Windows backup (or whatever it's called by MS) on sdb1, but I didn't. Does any of this help?
