Question Can't seem to get a secure connection

Hi all,

This issue is weird, we have tried quite some things but nothing seems to work.

The issue:
My dad was working on his pc when suddenly he couldn't establish a secure connection any longer. It was possible to connect with wifi and cable, but anything internet related doesn't seem to work.

setup:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5900X
MOBO: Gigabyte x570 AORUS Elite
RAM: 2x16 Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 3200mhz
PSU: EVGA 750 watt platinum
GPU: Gigabyte AORUS 2080
OS: Windows 11

We have tried:
  • anything OS related (flushing DNS, clearing SSL cache, different browsers, connecting to different router, connecting to phone hotspot, setting windows security levels to lowest, checking Date Time)
  • Clean image install of Windows 11
  • Clean image install of Windows 10
  • Completely clearing BIOS
We don't have a spare CPU nor a spare MOBO laying around, so we can't really test multiple setups.

Even after trying out all these things, we still stumble upon the same issue. My dad has been running this pc for the past year and a half, he first installed Windows 11 about a month ago.

Could this be hardware related? All components are still within their warranty and can be RMA'd.

What hardware could be causing this issue?

As stated in my post, I have already tried all of these solutions to no avail. We even installed a new OS and had the same issue.

A couple of things: first, what kind of security measures does your router have? If there is a list of allowed devices it may have been corrupted so it won't allow this one computer to connect. Second, try an alternate non-windows operating system. Try booting from a usb stick containing a linux distro and see if you can connect by ethernet and if the included browser works. If yes then its some sort of windows problem that you missed when you tried reinstalling windows. If so, try creating a new windows 10 installer with the Media Creation tool and use the Gparted app contained in the Linux distro to delete all partitions on the disk so that all of the space in unallocated. Note that only 1 drive should be connected at installation time; others can be connected after installation is complete. If that works, probably not a good idea using Windows 11 since it doesn't seem to get along with your hardware.

We have tried connecting it to a different router and a mobile hotspot, same issue.
There was indeed a single drive connected while installing Windows 10.

We haven't tried booting the pc up with Linux yet, still need to try that one out.

We have booted in Ubuntu, same issue when opening a browser.
