[SOLVED] Can't seem to get thermal paste off IHS, looking to resell?

In short I've got a new mobo/cpu and I was getting my old cpu cleaned up I straight out couldn't.

Example

This CPUs never gave me any problems, and I feel like I'd be a douche to sell it as is but I've been scrubbing at this thing with a cloth and isopropyl alcohol for a good 20 minutes. Any ideas on what else I could try?

add a little more paste to it hen reassemble. Then run a stress test.
Then try again while its still warm.

Goof off, or other "orange" based cleaner.
I cannot recall the brand, but one of the paste cleaner kits I have for when it's harder to get off than a microfiber will handle is basically similar to goof off for the first bottle, then a second bottle I believe to be isopropyl to clean that off.

I use 92% rubbing alcohol and a coffee filter. This is the most recommended combo I have seen since the coffee filters don't leave any lint behind.

Just scrap it off with a plastic putty knife...once the majority is off you can clean up the remaining compund with paper towels and some alcohol.

Looks like the old paste might have been an adhesive type.
You could try using fine sandpaper on a flat glass plate and lapping the chip.
You will get a smooth flat surface good for mounting a cooler.
If I was going to reuse the chip, that is what I might try.

But, if this is for resale, you do not want to erase the identifying marks.

I would try "Brake Cleaner"...a spray can at Walmart should be about $5 or so. Hit it, and wipe (peper towel is good) and maybe hit it and wipe again until clean.
