Can't transfer files on LAN

I've got XP pro and 2 computers on my home LAN, connected to the internet
with a cable modem and hub. I was able to share the printer (connected to my
kids' computer) and xfer files, but I can't anymore. The computers see each
other for LAN games, but not in My Network Places. The computers have
different names and are on the same workgroup.
When I use the network wizard to try to set up a new home network, I get
this error message at the end of the setup:

"An error occurred during configuration of the network on this computer.
You can configure your network manually , or you can run the wizard again
with different settings."

I am using Zone Alarm, but turned it off to see if it helped. It didn't. The
problem seems to be on my computer, not my kids'.
No virus or anything like that. I'm not a novice, just stumped.

Run WinSockXPFix.exe and try again.
