Can't turn off File Encryption/previously encrypted system

I have a number of files that I had encrypted on a previous version of Windows 7. I'm now running Windows 8.

I saved my keys and I am able to access the files. My problem is that I cannot turn off encryption on the files. Some of the files were encrypted by mistake (MP3s) and I don't want them encrypted.

Each time I try to turn off encryption (via folder/Properties/advanced/...) I get "Access Denied". My current user owns the files. I can delete them and copy them and play them without any issues. I simply cannot turn off encryption. 🙁
I've tried using Cipher /U but that didn't do anything that I noticed.

Thanks in advance.

Lesson learned. I won't use MS encryption ever again. 🙁

Update: Since I couldn't find an answer I wrote a quick program to do a byte for byte copy of the files to a new directory. The files are now unencrypted. 🙁 But I'd still like to know what I can do in the future rather than hack my way out of this problem as I'm sure others might want to know.

Nope. Been there, done that. I'm well beyond that. Something is messed up in the Windows OS. I can read the files, play them, and write them to a new directory. If I read and write them to the same directory they re-encrypt. EVEN THOUGH the directory is marked as no encryption, compression actually which is mutually exclusive with encryption.
