So i wanna do video recordings mainly and idc about stream but i might i dont know,my problem is that i was thinking of getting an elgato hd60 or pro one ! will the video lag if i have a low end system or the capture doesnt put any load in the gpu/cpu side ? my specs are:

Cpu:Amd Fx 8350 4.5ghz oc
Gpu:Xfx R9 280x DD-BD
and more blah blah 😛

Also i can new play games at 55 fps at high settings will the video be 1080p60p or it depends on my fps ? can i use it on a low end i3 system ? :)

Solution

Yes, you can do that, but it is completely pointless as your CPU still has to do the encoding just like when you're recording with obs, fraps.... So, you can do it, but there is no point, it won't increase performance. If you want that, sure you can do it, but it won't be any different to downloading OBS and using that to record directly.

So if you get a capture card, that means that you will be using it with 2 PC's. One to play the game and the other to record. The point of a capture card is that it doesn't slow down you main (gaming) PC, and all the work done for capturing the video is done on the second PC. So, to answer your question it won't put any load on your main PC, but your second one will do all the encoding and video capturing so a low power i3 might not quite cut it. I would recommend you get at least a 2nd/3rd gen i5/i7 for the second pc if you want to capture/stream in 720p60fps or 1080p.

Okay thanks, so lets forget the i3 then can i do 1080p60fps record on my fx ? and will i get droped frames ? i game on 55-60 mostly and with obs i get about 45 will it be the same thing with the capture card?

Well if you're not using 2 PC's then there is no point to a capture card since you cant plug it into itself. If you want to record directly with your main PC, OBS is good, but if you don't get 60fps and try to record in it it might be a bit weird to watch. So, in summary, no it won't be better with a capture card since that option isn't possible if you use only once PC.

well first i think you wrong you dont need 2 computers to capture the video since the gpu you game on connect to hdmi to capture then hdmi to monitor you ! also just forget about the 3 i want to record videos to my main system using only that can i do that with a capture card ?
